Tire Question

I have a 2013 FR SS 3170DS on a 2012 Ford E-450 chassis. The tires are original to the chassis and have 20K on them, the tread is fine. What's the conventional wisdom on changing them out? I have RVer's tell me everything between 3-7 years, based on tread wear. Appreciate any guidance. Thanks.

Five to six years on Class Cs and As with LT tires, maybe three years on trailers with ST tires.

Go to the tire manufacturers tire guides. I seem to remember reading on michelin that they recommended new tires at 5 years and should/must at 7 years. Don't remember exact wording but that is what I took as the meaning. That was for their car/truck tires.

Assuming on my part that one has not worn them out before that!

Change them every 3 yrs without hesitation and they make 4 or 5 good brands pic one. Not those other crap tires you keep reading in all the tire threads, check your psi when cold and smack em with a hammer during your day driving. Don't be lazy and put your faith in the electronic monitoring devices, put your eyes on them 2 , 3 times a day

I change out the Bridgestone Revo's on the tv every 5 years or ,at any time there is a puncture,if any cracking is present, if there is any sign of road damage to the tread. At 5 years the tires are only 1/2 worn and easily sold on craigs list for 100$ each.Same with trailer tires, which are always gy marathons.I do look them over every day when towing.I do not ever run a repaired tire on any position on the trailer or the steering axle of the tv. In the last 200000 miles I have only had 1 flat (nail) and have never shreded or blew a tire out on the trailers which includes the current camp trailer,a 147 equipment trailer,2 place horse trailer w/lq,and a 10000 gross dump box.

First thing, check the date code on the tires themselves. Their age is not necessarily the same as the chassis or the RV. Five to seven years old is the rule I've always heard, as mentioned by others here. Other than that, I look very closely for weathering and/or checkering on the sidewalls. So, my theory is conditions dictate at five years, age at seven years. Just my opinion.

My coach was used when I bought it. One month after I bought it I had a tire blow lucky for me I was parked. Had two new tires installed on the front. A month later I did the rear that was five years ago. Having 6 new ones installed on Tuesday. Old tires are starting to crack I'm not taking any chances. Jim

If your 3170 has Michelin tires, check the date codes. Michelin recalled some and will replace them free. Don't forget the spare. It may or may not be the same brand or date code.

This post made me chuckle. It's word for word what I read on my motorcycle forums.
