towing classics on tow dolly
I have 2015 Georgetown 335 and tow dolly . I would like to take at different times in good weather one of my classics..here goes.. #1 1936 Chev Coupe ,, #2 1956 Chev Bel Air ,, #3 1965 Mustang Convertible ,, any comments or recommendations on how best to do this many thanks Bob

I have been researching the same idea, as far as I can see unless they are stick cars you would have to pull the driveshaft or install backwards which is not really recommended. Lets see what others have to say.

the 36 coupe and the 65 mustang are standard transmission the 56 bel air is auto and I don't think I would want to tow backwards Bob

when i purchased my 65 mustang i towed it on a dolly behind my 26' class c which i have sold now. it was only rated to tow 3500lb and had the smaller 5.7 chevy engine, but towed the mustang with ease.

was your 65 a standard and if so did you tow front wheels on dolly and in neutral and did you have any problems with 65 mustang tranny. Its all original and I do not want %$&#@ the tranny thanks Bob

This mustang is an automatic, so i discoinnected the rear of drive shaft and zipped tied it out the way, very easy to do on the old mustangs. The 65 i had before this one was stick shift with a 5 speed conversion, although i never towed it rving with us, i did have occasion to tow it a couple of times on breakdowns. (both fuel pump related) and it towed with front wheels on the dolly just fine. all 3 towing trips were with front wheels on dolly, no steering lock, and no extra brakes. i have heard people say that you shouldnt tow rear wheel drives on tow dolly encase it accidently falls into gear, but i find it very hard to imagine this could happen.... but then i have been wrong before.

Check your tranny on the classics. Some were towable w/rear wheels down, depending on trans and if it had a front pump or not.....

Mine is a 1978 Nova 9C1 (Police Coupe). Never used in police service, 30K original miles and a 2014 National Gold Award Winner. Car trailer only, preferably enclosed.

LeMans is a 1967 with 23000 original miles numbers match, Mustang is a 1972 , 64000 original miles, changed hood and one repaint. I also would not dolly them just trailer.

Rather than a tow dolly I'd recommend a JimGlo Trailer. It's expensive but worth it to protect your classics. www.jimglo.com
