I went with the Winegard Trav'ler dish. It is available for either Direct TV or Dish Network. I chose this over the domes for several reasons. First domes can suffer signal loss due to rain on the dome itself, quicker than with a standard dish. At the time I bought mine last year the domes were not capable of receiving the HD satellites that both services were moving to.
I have found the Trav'ler to be a bit pickier when near trees than a good old dish on a tripod. There have been times when I felt as though I had a good shot of the sky but a lone tree in the distance or something kept me from tuning all 3 sattelites, only got one of them on Dish Network (no big deal). In the open it tunes in the satellites quickly (within about 5 minutes) and gets a good signal. I wouldn't leave your manual dish at home if you are heading for the woods though.
It is nice to just push a button and walk away to set up camp and let it do the work for you. We love our Trav'ler dish.
OH, BTW, Welcome to the forums!
