Want to add satellite to travel trailer what am i looking for?

Just purchased a 2007 sierra pull behind. Want to add a automatic dish to top. I use Direct tv and did with my last unit. I used a tripod and have used a cube before also. This takes a lot of time and frustration that takes away from the enjoyment. I thought maybe i could find some reviews online but have not. Any help? I have heard that some work only some of the time. Any recomendations i only want to buy once. thanks

You still almost need a portable dish as lots of times the trees won't allow a roof mounted dish to work. It depends a lot on what kind of campgrounds you camp in and how far south you are.

I went with the Winegard Trav'ler dish. It is available for either Direct TV or Dish Network. I chose this over the domes for several reasons. First domes can suffer signal loss due to rain on the dome itself, quicker than with a standard dish. At the time I bought mine last year the domes were not capable of receiving the HD satellites that both services were moving to.

I have found the Trav'ler to be a bit pickier when near trees than a good old dish on a tripod. There have been times when I felt as though I had a good shot of the sky but a lone tree in the distance or something kept me from tuning all 3 sattelites, only got one of them on Dish Network (no big deal). In the open it tunes in the satellites quickly (within about 5 minutes) and gets a good signal. I wouldn't leave your manual dish at home if you are heading for the woods though.

It is nice to just push a button and walk away to set up camp and let it do the work for you. We love our Trav'ler dish.

OH, BTW, Welcome to the forums!

We have a Windview Dome by Winegard. Don't think they make it anymore. Like NWJeeper stated it does lose signal but only if it's really raining hard. Snow & frost are another issue in the mornings. The big downer for me is that it's not HD capable and we recently went to HD Tivo units in the house but still have the old standard Tivo unit out in the motorhome. Welcome to the forum!!!
