Since you didn’t mention anything about your camper, I’m gonna guess here.
Your camper has a switch to go from pump to city water? It’s in the wrong position.
Your gravity fill tank is EMPTY and therefore there’s no water to pump?

You should NEVER run the water pump, while hooked up to city water.

I think the assumption was the OP was no longer hooked up because there was no water coming out like should if still on city supply.
Then they must not know that being hooked to city water, does not fill the FW tank, unless the pump has a bad check valve.

It would help if you listed your rig type and model. My first thought would be like CW's make sure you have water in your potable tank.
I did not make myself clear. I was hooked up to city water for a week or more. Now that I am not hooked up and on the road with a full tank of water, when I turn the pump on, I can hear something running but no water coming out. Rig is a 2017 sun seeker forest river 2400r. I have had some very unique plumbing problems with this rig. Often times when hooked up to city water the fresh water tank will fill. On another occasion after being hooked up to city water for a while and driving home I stopped for fuel . While stopped I turned on the pump and water shot out the fill hole about 6 feet. Luckily no one was walking by. The plumbing on this unit is very strange!!!
