"Why GM Cancelled The 1973-1978 GMC MotorHome" on YouTube

https://youtu.be/NWdCtwJm6nA

Someone in my area has one of these sitting in their yard. I always thought they looked cool even though my Father did an excellent job converting a school bus for our family of five kids.

I'm curious if anyone here had one of these and what issues they had compared to today's offerings?

That video has actually been popping up in my YouTube searches, as I guess they know I look at a lot of RV stuff.

I was working for a GM dealership back then and the owner had one of these. He really bragged on it as it was pretty fancy back then.

GM also dabbled with the Chalet and the Casa Grande on their Blazer & Jimmy chassis in the later '70s.

I once saw a 20' mini-motorhome built on a Chevy Astro chassis with AWD. That thing looked real nice and had good clearance. The guy had 35" off road tires on it.

With the exception of bigger front brakes the entire drivetrain is 100% Oldsmobile Toronada. Just shows how tough those Toros were built! I know because I worked at the Oldsmobile garage in the late 70s. Jay

A lot of factors involved during this 1973-1978 timeframe. The first Oil Embargo which saw gas prices double in month with long lines at the pumps, wage stagnation, double digit inflation and interest rates at 18-20% to name a few.

Yup, I was a Chevy salesman and interest rates for most customers were about 20%. Had mostly cash buyers for awhile.

Gas lines. Odd even days. I think that was in that era.

I never owned one but I got to borrow one a few times. I worked at our local airshow and was on call 24 hrs a day, so this was my base.

It was a beautifully styled machine and fun to drive.

If I win the lottery I'm gonna get me one.

Cheers
