1st W&P purchase, advice welcome
Hello all!
We are planning to purchase a 2017 34WRS next week. We’re pretty pleased with the price we’ve negotiated . We are looking into a Reese Steadi Flex weight distribution hitch for use with our 04 Chev 3500 dually 4x4 Diesel.
Any tips and advice for us when inspecting the W&P prior to purchase? (Beyond the obvious) I’m hoping y’all have some great wisdom to share....

Great camper. We had a 30WRS and it served us well during almost two years of XC ATV racing.
Do a PDI thoroughly.
Make sure your hitch is STOUT. The 34WRS has a stated hitch weight of over 1800 lbs! Make sure you have a beefy electric jack on the tongue of that thing.
If you're going off-road with it like we did at our races, I recommend moving the rear jacks forward and having some rollers placed under the rear of the camper. The 34WRS is long and low and if you go over some dips, it could easily drag which would rip your rear jacks off the camper and possibly damage the rear of the camper itself.
Give us some more insight of your plans for this camper? Harleys? Dirt bikes? ATVs? Going off-road or just hitting RV parks? Where do you live? Hot or cold climates?

We live in Tennessee. We are planning to carry a Kia Soul at times, most of the time it will be just a couple of kayaks and gear. Really not quite the load in comparison to the load capacity.
I fell in love with the versatility.
Now the great controversy is which hitch.... The dually had a 6" Fabtech lift, ranch hand bumpers front and back with a 2" receiver... Not a 2 1/2".... Excited and perplexed...

Great question. What are the specs of the hitch on the truck? Is it rated for an 1800 lb. tongue weight? Newer duallys have big capcacity hitches but the fact that yours is only a 2" receiver. That concerns me.
If its not up to specs, etrailer sells a Curt Class 5 for only $254. It has a 2700 lb. tongue rating and 20,000 lb. tow rating. I've had one on my F350 work truck for four years. Its a fantastic bargain and I installed it myself in a little over an hour.

Thank you for all your help. We’ve added a new receiver hitch from Curt that is rated for 2400 lb TW and we have a Blue Ox weight distribution hitch with sway bars. We set out for a 10 hour drive to pick up our 34WRS tomorrow.

Wow. You are definitely ready now. Nice upgrade.
Where are you getting the W&P? My guess is RV Outlet or Ledford's.
Don't forget to post pics of the whole set-up. We like that kind of stuff here.

We will definitely be posting pics!! We are buying it from Travel Camp in Jacksonville FL. 2017 model with only 19 hours on generator for about $7k under value ..... Out the door.....
Now that we have the great hitch dilemma behind us, are there any things we should pay close attention to during our PDI? IE: Toyota trucks are known to wear through CV joints and boots... Anything like that on W&P?

Well. You're probably already on your way. But I'll chime in anyway.
As far as I know, the W&Ps really don't have many quirks. They're built so stout, they overcome many typical issues from most campers. Just do the usual: run and test everything, check the roof even though its metal, look for any noticeable signs of problems like water damage, etc.
Exciting day. Have a great trip.

Update, during PDI we found the sink drain “p”traps leaking, one ac unit compressor wouldn’t turn on ( this unit has two ac units ) and the dealer had the ball coupler replaced with one not rated for the weight capacity. Dealer is having the coupler replaced, tightened up the collars on the p traps and replaced the ac unit. Travelcamp in Jacksonville Fl is working their butt off for us which is awesome. One other thing we found that is concerning is the top radius rail on the driver side has four welds where it has been sectioned together where as the passenger side only has one weld towards the rear of the trailer.
We were concerned about all of these but pleased that our dealer is replacing or repair all issues.... But the welds on the driver side ...... Would Forest River weld in 4 different lengths? Was it a repair from previous owner damage? We’ve tried looking at pics of other 34WRS but none are close enough for a good comparasion.... thoughts?

Hmmm? You got me there. My 30WRS is long gone so I can't check as well. You can surely see them in the pic but it may be no big deal.
I'm assuming you saw no other damage if something did happen in the past? Walls look good and straight? No folds or bends in the roof panel? Floors good and strong with no soft spots?
Does sound like the dealer is trying to make things right for you. Typically, a new AC runs close to $1000 when a dealer has to replace or install new.

Mine is a 2014 30WRS, but has no sectioned pieces at all along the top edge. It is all one length. I would ask them about it & see how they respond. Things like that & coupler being replace would kind of make me nervous if its been in a previous incident. But then again if repairs are done correctly, it's not a deal breaker. Ask for previous owners name & info so you can call & talk to them about history of it all.

After 2 days in town, the tongue coupler replaced and a new account unit installed. We are finally on the road!! We can't thank y'all enough for your insight. It was a huge help.

Awesome! Y'all look really excited. Looks great.
The camper looks good and level. That beast of a truck could be better on leveling. When you get it home, play with the hitch some. Youtube is your friend when learning about adjusting certain WD hitches.
Might be as simple as moving the head down some on the shaft. If that's possible with that brand of hitch.
All in all. Congratulations. Gonna be a great summer!

FYI, those seam welds are factory. Our smaller 25’ WB purchased new in 2016 has them on both sides.

No great wisdom here....but you sure have a nice set-up. That 4 extra feet over what I have gives you a great garage! Solid trailer and it's all a learning experience for me - couple pilot errors, but I'm getting there
Enjoy your adventures!

Nice looking truck and RV, we have a 2007 W&P 34RL. While our tow rig, 2015 GMC Denali Dmax, has no lift installed we do run AirLift 5000 air bags to level it out.
Our cap rails are one continuous piece, no welds.
