2015 f150

Greetings all,

I have a 2011 F150 Ecoboost which has taken us and two different 7,500-8,000 pound toy haulers all across the US 3 times now. I am thinking seriously about ordering the 2015 F150.

Everything I have read is positive. My local dealer only had a 2.7 for me to drive and it drove real nice. I would get the 3.5 Ecoboost and Max tow.

I do have some reservations about buying the first year of such a big design change. Aluminum sounds great but I am concerned with repairs if ever necessary and who knows what else.

My Ecoboost has really worked great for our towing but I am wondering if I should look at the Ram 1500 hemi and wonder how it will compare to the Ecoboost in the mountains when towing.

I would appreciate opinions.

Thanks, Mark

Been driving aluminum bodied semi's for many years...didn't stop me from buying one. Should be here in about 3 weeks. You do have to take them to an authorized repair shop and quite a bit of the panels are remove and replace from what I've been told.

If it were me I wouldn't hesitate buying a 2015. There were no mechanical changes to the 3.5 Ecoboost. I would even look at buying a leftover 2014 before I looked at a 5.7 Ram. I would even be more inclined to look at the 6.4 Hemi in a 2500 before I considered a 5.7 1500. Just my .02 worth.

A buddy of mine has a 5.7 Hemi in his 2012, has not towed. Has had several engine repairs and a tranny under warranty. Now he wants a TT and is worried his broken truck won't tow it. Another coworker who tows a 20 ft boat has had a tranny under warranty as well. the F 150's and Chey's have been trouble free.

I would buy 2015 hands down. Ecoboost is tested and proven.

I have over 60,000 miles on my 2011 Ecoboost, about 30,000 of that is towing 7,500-8,000 lbs, so I know and really like the Ecoboost motor. My concern is the first year of the new aluminum body.

Why go lighter - a lighter truck towing 8K is not better than what you have... Ecoboost w max tow has more power than the ram and geared w 4:10 has no problem towing power to spare --but my problem is 6mpg when towing 8k. Once you get over 65mph the actual weight of your truck and trailer sway will will show more with a lighter truck..... Just a thought

If it were me, I'd enjoy the one I had a while longer. There's lots of life left in that truck. It seems like the more I use mine, the better it drives.

My truck tows my current set up really well. I try to keep my speed at 60-63 mph and my trip averages are just above 10 mpg towing 7,500 lbs. But yeah, 65 and above the milage drops like a rock. And since my summer trips are usually in the Rockies it seems from all I have read that the turbo makes the best difference at altitude.

I think I'll try to wait a little while longer. Maybe see what changes come in the 2016 model year. I guess my problem is that my wife will start social security soon and I want to make sure that money goes to something really important, like my new truck

Just got back from Ohio to Seattle towing hyper light 29 about 8k+ and the most we could get was 6.5 on the last 6 hr of trip we averaged 60 - 65 mph - tried everything to get mph up - f150 ecoboost w max tow -very nice truck otherwise - great towing features

6.5 mpg is really bad. I found that if I lock out 6 th gear so I'm driving in 5th and stay between 60-63 using the cruise control I average around 10 mpg. My milage is better with the cruise on. It hates going over 63. Power is ok, but man, does the mpg drop. If it's really windy I may drop down to 8. Try staying in 5 th gear. My engine seems to like towing right at 2,000 rpm.

Hope this helps.
