Anybody towing with a 2015 F150?

My 2015 ordered F150 Ecoboost is due to arrive in about 2-3 weeks. This truck is replacing my 2011 Ecoboost which did a great job towing for me.

I was wondering if anybody on the forum has been towing with a 15 F150 and what their thoughts and experiences were.

Thanks

I have a 2015 and have towed with it. No problems whatsoever. The adaptive cruise control made it even easier. I have the 3.5L ecoboost.

'15 3.5L max tow. 5900 miles on it with a little more than 4000 of that towing. Tow exceptionally well through mountains, flats or wind. Only problem so far was the trailer control module failed on the first trip. Couldn't get 12v power to the TT. Then of course there's the on going paint issues.

What kind of paint issues are you having? Just curious.

The two tone lower was blasted with dirt and in one spot it something laid up against the wet paint then clear coated over....including the dirt. In several areas the red was bleeding through the magnet. That was all on the lower portion. Now I'm getting areas developing in the red that looks like smudges under the clear coat coming from behind the base coat. Obviously bad prep.
Before I get done nearly 75% of my brand new truck will be repainted.

Wow. That's crazy. Mine is a '15 King Ranch and the only issue is a door that is not fitting very well. Took it into service, and adjusting the striker plate didn't help any, so the body shop is going to take it in for a few days while I'm out of town and take care of it. Nothing major, but an annoyance to me.

So far, I must admit, I love this truck. (knock on wood)

Had a 2014 F-150 Eco pulling a 30' W/P (10,500+ loaded). Had major sway issues. Didn't have sway issues towing it with a Chevy 2500. Added Air bags, little help. Inflated the tires to max pressure, didn't help. Traded the F150 for a 2015 F250 Diesel. No more sway issues.
If you have sway issues, consider purchasing a re-con Hensley Arrow or a bigger truck.

Wow towing a 30 foot work and play with a f-150? You deserve a purple heart! We were towing on I81 in Virginia going 65 and hit a crosswind towing with my F-350. I now only tow at 55 better safe then sorry. Glad you got a heavy duty truck!

I had a 2012 EcoBoost F150. 2 major issues I had that kept me from hauling a travel trailer of decent size.

1) lack of payload. However I did not have max tow or max payload.

2) complete lack of engine braking. Just driving in the black hills with my family in the cab and cruise control on the truck would drop 2 gears to hold back speed. Imagine with 7-8k behind on a long grade...

You should have a fuse and relay in the glove box that needs to be put into the fuse box under the hood. They are not installed at the factory. Once installed this will give you 12v power to tour TT.

There are lots of people towing with 2015s. Check out f150ecoboost.net for ways to spend even more money on your new truck

I am 6 weeks in to towing with my 2015 F150 Ecoboost with Max tow. Went to the scales scales and trailer is right at 8,000 pounds. The truck with 36 gallons of gas, hooked to trailer with WDH, all our crap and wife and I came in at being under max weight by 250 pounds. Payload is 1,655 and we weighed about 1,400 and some change. All my numbers were safely within limits of truck.

Started in Florida and currently in Breckenridge, Colorado and I have to say the truck has been a pleasure to tow with. Transmission holds speed on declines well but the one option I would like is the engine brake. I am averaging about 10 mpg driving at 62-63. Climbing it rarely goes above 2,000 and on the steepest climbs it goes to 24-2,700 rpm and does not drop speed. Only time above 3,000 rpm is when going down steep declines and the trans is keeping my speed. Normal pulling is at 1,700 rpm. Downshifting is rare except on hard climbs.

Now all that being said, if I get a larger trailer then I would upgrade a a 3/4 ton diesel. But for what I have now, I am very happy with this truck trailer combo.

It failed and was replaced.

I find that WHERE I tow makes quite a difference. Towing in the Southeast, I get 11 mpg towing a 5,500 lb RV trailer at 62 mph. (4,000 mile average). Flat and lots of trees along the routes to block wind.

Towing out West usually means less fuel economy. More grades but the big difference is that there is ALWAYS significant wind and there is NOTHING to stop it.
