Brake help
I have a new wp 30wr, Brakes were really weak so I decided to adjust them up. I adjusted them up I could hear the shoes scrub the drums. Still they were weak. I set my brake controller all the way up and with truck in drive @ idle bar slide way over on controller the truck still moved the trailer. I pulled the breakaway cable and I could still move the trailer. Put cable back in I could hear the brakes release. With that I`m thinking its in the trailer end. Thanks for any help before a trip to the dealer.

There can be several possible issues. Have a friend press on the TV brake pedal while you walk around the trailer with a compass ... pass the compass near the wheel hubs ... it should spin ... if it doesn't one of more brakes has a bad wire or loose connection. The wire traveling thru your axle tube from one side of your camper to the other is prone to issues. Your brakes could be coated with grease if the rear seal has blown out ... this is especially possible with the EZ lube axles. You may have a bad ground from truck to trailer. If you have a clamp on ammeter ... each brake magnet pulls about 3 amps ... with the brake pedal depressed and the ammeter around the blue wire going to your camper, it should read around 12 amps.

Had same issue, Grease seals were bad, Magnet has to make contact with interior flat surface in inside of hub. Mine was all dirty and greasy. Pull one hub and check. While hub is off have someone step on brake pedal, hold pliers or wrench on magnet and it should stick. This way you are also checking magnet.

if your seals are bad and the pads got contaminated you need to replace the linings, they prob just got glazed over while the trailer was delivered to your dealer,i complained about my brakes since day one to the dealer, they even talked to the factory and I got was ALL GOOD... so I decided to fix my problem, first replaced the seals with heavy duty $15 each vs 3.00, then replaced the pads, then controller (twice) p-2, p-3, now timed base. then found the wiring going to the axles was 14 gage and should be 10 gage at 12 amps, I replaced the entire wiring from the pin box to the magnets and got away from the crappy crimps the factory installed, I put in a terminal block and ran everything to it, now I can lock my brakes at any speed, she sure slows down nice as I can set the controller to just before lock up and the trailer pulls the truck down vs the trailer pushing the truck and just about terrifying me a couple times when a animal (deer) came out in front of me at 55mph, or a car pulled out in front.

Thanks for the help, I pulled a hub and the shoes were greasy. Also check magnets with a compass and the compass turns @ each wheel. I have lippert components inc axles 6000gawr rated. Anyone know what seal and shoes I need. Or be better off taking them to a trailer shop to get the right ones?

I would pull one set off and take them to the trailer parts store for new pads, seals and cotter keys... You might be able to clean with brake clean but I would just go with new pads and seals..
I use to be a fan of ez lube axles and I have never had a problem. But if you don't take it easy and spin the wheel when greasing you can blow past the seal. I just do it the olf fashioned way now... Pull the bearings, clean ,inspect, grease them up and put them back in...

1|243, I agree pull the bearings to clean and inspect. Then manually repack. The seal will need to be replaced but this ensures your brake linings are good to go. EZ lube cotter pins for bearing removal are a pain but a little jiggling of the castle nut will get the job done. YouTube is great to view the procedures. Happy Trails !!!!

I ordered the parts from etrailer today and I agree with 1/234 I `m going to pack the bearings by hand. Think its a much better way to go. That extra time may save being stranded along the highway.

Had one of those 40 yrs ago and finally pitched it in the trash. Collects dirt, messy to clean up and just generally a PITA. Hands are going to get greasy regardless. JMO.

No way! They would have to be gold plated to sell for that kind of money. I think I paid $6 a seal from trailer supply store.. And I paid too much..

Purchased a used 2008 W&P last June 2014. Found out it had weak brakes.
After inspection of the hubs, found the seals bad, pads covered in grease, magnet worn down.
Took the hubs to a local garage to have the bearings inspected and replaced/repacked and new seals installed. Didn't replace the shoes, decided to replace the complete assembly. Local Agri Supply sales them for $50, replaced the magnets too. Its stops now.
Besides weak brakes, what started this was a blowout at 65mph. Replace all 4 mismatched "D" rated tires with "E" rated Maxxis.
After several months of having to place boards under the wheels when packing in the driveway because of such a low clearance in the rear, decided to flip the axle and replace the suspension with a Dexter kit; raised it up about 5". Next project will be replacing the steps.
