Dometic 13.5 vs 15K power requirement

I own a Dometic 3,000 watt inverter generator that is advertised to run a 13.5 BTU Dometic a/c. I used it only a couple of times on my old camper and it worked ok.

My new camper has a Dometic 15,000 BTU a/c. We stay at campgrounds but occasionally I would like to be able take a rest area break and have a/c for a little while.

Does the 15K BTU a/c take more power to start than the 13.5? Before I hook up the generator to try, I am wondering if it does not have enough power will it damage the a/c unit. Which breaker will trip first, generator or A/C?

Thanks

My 3000 watt Yamaha runs the 15K just fine but only with ECO off.

Just watch your other items.

Your generator will produce 26.5 amps so the generator should kick offline first (won't hurt anything; just a pain).

Running the AC while using:

Hair Dryer
Hair Curler
Microwave
Coffee Maker
Fans

or other high (above 6-8 amps or so cumulative) can cause the generator to overload and kick off line during compressor start up.

Thanks Herk. I will try it out tomorrow. I am getting so close to my 3 month trip I don't want to mess anything up.

I have one of the champion 3100 watt peak inverters and i run my 15k ac fine on it along with the fridg. i leave it on econo mode. When the ac kicks on the gen will rev up. If i want to run the microwave i turn the ac off just to play it safe. i have even tested it running the water heater on electic and works fine as long as the ac is turned off.
