Fresh water AUTO FILL

We are traveling with friends that have a brand new Hyperlite XLR 24. His freshwater tank seems to fill on its own to the point where it overflows. This is happening while hooked to city water.

Is there a check valve or something that prevents the city water from filling the freshwater tank? Is it possible the water is back flowing through the pump? Is there something simple that we are overlooking?

We are outside West Yellowstone, about 3,000 miles from home. So far he has had a broken electric brake wire and had to have the A/C replaced, all under warranty. He just tonight discovered this fresh water tank issue and is starting to talk about the virtues of staying at a Hampton Inn.

You hit it. The city connection tees into the hose that connects to the outlet of the water pump. There should be a check valve in that tee to prevent backflow like this.

Disconnect the city water and turn on the pump. Run some water through the system for a few minutes, if there's a bit of debris in the valve that may dislodge it. If you've got some tools you might be able to take the valve off and look at it.

X2, usually check valve is part of the water pump assembly.

I replaced pump on our 24 hfs and fixed it

He has been running the pump for a day now and still leaking into freshwater tank. At least there is a valve to cut water supply to pump, so that's the short term solution. I guess he will get a new pump somewhere along this trip. Thanks for the input.
