2010 21SS Fuzzy Radio Reception?

Just bought my used 2010 21SS, the radio works great for about an hour then the reception on all FM bands gets fuzzy. I turn the radio off for about an hour, and then back on, and its better for a while before its gets fuzzy again. Has anybody experienced that before?

thank you.

Can't say I have. Is the radio a Concertone/Genesis?

Could be getting some type of interference from the converter kicking on and charging the battery. Next time it happens, pull the plug on your shore power and see if it stops.

I've found that some times just turning a 12 Volt light on will cut down on interference like you mention.

You might try "ferrite cores," insure you have a proper ground on the radio itself, and solid connections. Radio Shack and other electronic stores-- as those on the net-- sell these which are easy to install and properly placed-- they work.

Also of interest is from where you get your power, as in which line brings the juice to the radio. If you have a possibility of switching to different circuit, or best yet a direct connection (fused of course) to the battery terminal strips, you might avoid most or all noise.

Consider looking around for a HAM in your area who might be willing to help you. HAM's are good people. Part of our reason as a HAM is helping a fellow neighbor.

73,

Mike
