in my neck of the woods (mostly hardwoods) sap deposits on my windshield as tiny clear dots almost like rain drops but much smaller. Would not even see it except it is on the windshield of the truck. I know it is sap because it does not evaporate. It is there until I wash the windshield. It is not thick globs of booger-like resin...
Just saying that this can be prevented with careful cleaning every time the bunk end is down. I routinely wipe the bunk edge every 3-5 days while camping for 2 weeks at a time, then wipe again before I button up. I try to wipe as high as I can the actual rubber seals, but do not usually do the top horizontal seal, which I hit with cleaner then 303 conditioner once a year when in the driveway.
Just trying to help out...
Close it up on a dollar bill on the sides and top and try to pull the bill out. If it slides out easily then you might need adjustment of the latches ( described here on numerous threads). If it is fairly tight I would say that you are still good to go even with that slight damage to the seal. But that is just MHO...
