Oh yes...this looks like my kind of place! My first planned mod is to figure out something with the tv. Literally the ONLY thing I don't like about the floor plan is the tv placement. I can't blame Forest River though...I have spent hours thinking about how I might relocate it and have yet to settle on anything.

Reasons I considered the 23 foot models (23ss and 23ikss) were tv placement and sofa.

Reasons I chose the 21DK instead:

- 3 feet shorter. This can be a real advantage in backing in, driveway parking, etc.
- Larger bathroom with tons of counter and shelf space.
- Outdoor fridge (nice to not have to open the door more than necessary just for a bev).
- Love having the bathroom right by the door. Not only is it usable when folded up, but it cuts down on the traffic going through the camper for bathroom trips (which seem to be happening much more often in my mid-40s...hmmm).
- Love the huge wardrobe and panty and the location of each. I realize other models have good options as well but to still have huge amounts of inside storage in a 3 foot shorter length is pretty awesome.
- I like that the dinette and window are on the awning side. Where I camp the awning side is always towards the scenery and the other side faces other campers. While I like the fact that some other floorplans have more windows, I don't want those windows to be on the slide side (I realize this is not unique to the 21DK, but some models have the main windows on the slide side).
- As silly as it sounds, I love the window in the bathroom. Nice touch.

Sitting in ours on day 4 of our 1st trip, and have made a few observations on what I would have done different, and what I may be able to do to fix it.
Very 1st would have been to move the front bed back to be equal with the overhead shelve....yes I have several red marks on my forehead...
The false door beside the stove may soon tip out and contain a knife block.
May be removing knobs on all the lower cabinets.
The rear overhead shelve should end at the Bathroom wall, and the bathroom shelve should use the space back there. maybe even convert it to a cabinet.
Put a Y in the shorter furnace discharge and add a vent under the table.
Shelves of some kind in the closet.
Will be redesigning the false walls around the tail lights and the furnace in the front to add a lot more space.
Make or get PUGs and reflex.....been wanting these for the last 3 campers, its finally time.
The wife has used the 6" and 12" cloth boxes to pack everything in and they fit the cabinets perfectly.
We thought we would love this camper....turns out we like it even more than that....

And yes RooVader....We LOVE the bathroom window....just wished it opened...

I am having trouble visualizing the overhead shelf comments but I am guessing that is entirely because I don't have mine yet and it will be pretty obvious soon enough. Hopefully you saved me some forehead dings.

Keep the thread updated as you do those mods, you have my wheels turning particularly about the false wall by the tail lights.

Just picked up my DK today and saw that mine has a window that opens in the bathroom. Click image for larger version

I'm just wondering about the slid out it looks like it is not all the way in on the bottom all though it's closed. Click image for larger version

The speaker placement is unlikeable, as well. One speaker facing out next to the TV, the other facing down over the dinette. Very poor sound distribution. Better that they would be mounted as a pair on either side of the TV.

I may do that and just put a blank speaker cover on the one over the dinette. Or, use that dinette speaker wire to fish another pair over there, put a matching speaker at the opposite end of the cabinet and rewire the pair as speaker B. At the same time, add another speaker next to the TV as the opposite side of speaker A.

That said, we rarely watch TV when camping. It just irks me that they made such a poor design decision and that it sounds so bad.

I considered the same thing. However, the air intake for the furnace is under the table, too. If you have the output next to intake you'll have poor distribution of the warm air.

The design screams for a pass-through storage. I do wish they were more efficient about the space they block off to protect wiring and put doors at either end of the back side. The cabinet covers the entire width of the trailer.

My big mod fantasy is to put a skylight in the main cabin. I find it rather dark. I'm contemplating a 14x14 in the front left corner between the kitchen and the front bunk. There's nothing in the area that I can tell. If wires are routed through the ceiling I can route them around the inner housing of the skylight. What concerns me is finding something structural...

FR blocked off the shelf over the read bed just a little behind the bathroom. There's nothing there at all. I suspect it was to prevent losing something by it shifting far out of reach.

Putting cabinet doors on it is a good idea but I'm already not putting the cabinets over the dinette to good use. Until I fill those up there's no point in cutting into walls.
