233s or 23ikss

Thinking about trading the pop up for either a 233s o4 a 23ikss. Have a 12 yr old a 6 yr old daughter and a 9 ur old son. Right now the son sleeps on the dinette in the pop up. So leaning toward the 233s but man that 23ikss is nice. Anybody havebsome advice?

Thanks

That is going to be a tough decision! I had the same dilema a few months back but we decided to go with the 233s! love it! althought if i got the 23ikss i would love tat too. we picked the 233s because of the extra bed, your kids are young now but when they get older, they will want their own space. We took 2 addtional teens with us camping and found there was plenty of space. The 23ikss does offer alot more storage and the inside is amazing! i dont think you will be disappointed in either one!

happy camping!

Welcome!

I have the 233S and find the three bunks really great with three kids. Our two youngest daughters share one bunk so we do not have to use the dinette. Had enough of that with other trailers.

But, I really like that center area with the sink and counter space and the extra counter near the stovetop. Counter space is sorely lacking in the 233S. Also, I believe the 23IKSS has more interior storage drawers.

Having said that, I would still buy the 233S. Setting up a dinette bed is a PITA day after day and intrudes on privacy. Its nice to put the kids to bed and still have most of the trailer useable without us disturbing them.

Like you we traded our pop up in for a hybrid. We looked at both models but went for the 23ikss. I understand people not wanting to fold the dinette up and down but for us it's quick and easy. We spent a week with all 5 kids inside the camper and loved it. We also got the option of the sleeper sofa with air mattress which worked great. Depending on the number of kids you have you could use that and not have to convert the dinette.

In the end the amount of counter space made a big impact in our decision....my wife couldn't find a place to put th coffee maker in the 233 that that ruled it out lol!

Bottom line we love ours, and the amount of storage and floor space is huge!

But like others have said, I don't think you could go wrong with either!

We traded our popup and went for the 23IKSS. For us, its normally 3, sometimes 4 people so the 3rd bunk wasn't as important to us. But it turns out, that a new tt makes you more popular. After 13 seasons of never having any overnight guests, we have had relatives staying with us on the last 2 trips. The huge living area and all the storage has been a life-saver, or at least a relationship saver. We have slept 5 with no problem without using the dinnette. I would highly recomend the air bed option on the IKSS if you go that way. It gives you a true 3rd bed.

And the IKSS weighs a little more, so if trailer weight is an issue, that is something to consider.

Mine don't leak and never have on two hybrids

It can happen, of course, but not nearly to the extent we might think reading though a forum like FRF where people gravitate to solve problems.

Instead of putting the kids in the back and side bunks in the 233s, how about the kids in the back and front bunks and pull the curtain? Put the parents in the sofa bed.

Just thinkin' out loud.

When we started looking we were trying to decide between the 233s and IKSS, but In our situation we realized that in the near future we wouldn't have both boys with us. They're 18 and 14, so we opted for the IKSS with the couch bed and it's been great. DW also discovered that if you leave the table in the lowered position and put it in front of the couch it makes a perfect coffee table and frees up the dining area as an extra seating area. Good luck, either one would be great.

OP - if you are not limited to a hybrid you may want to consider a triple bunk TT like the 2 below -- they spec out close to the Hybrids in weight etc:
Mini Lite Travel Trailer by Forest River

or

Surveyor Travel Trailer by Forest River

Guess that depends...how big is the hit and do you want to trade up bad enough to take it? Older popups that are in good shape are easy to sell for a decent price from what I've seen. On a newer one, you are definetly going to take a hit for depreciation.

No harm in testing the waters - try Craigs list and see what happens, and/or see what the dealer would offer. Its getting toward the later part of the season, which might make a private sale harder but with a dealer it might be a wash or help you a little if you find a 2013 that they don't want to own all winter.

No cost to shop for some numbers, although that just going to look thing has a way being expensive sometimes

I just searched Craigslist in my area for "popup camper" and there are 100 listings currently. Not sure if that is a lot compared to the spring or not. I'd say try it on CL at your price and see what you get now rather than wait.

One thought is that I think spring vs fall sales can depend somewhat on the locale and weather. In the north here in Wisconsin, buyers (new or used) seem to get the itch in the spring and the RV shows start in January/February (you'd figure that they would know the best time of year to entice crowds to their events). Also, anyone of us with kids know that the summer is pretty much it for any significant camping because they're out of school so people seem a bit more anxious to buy right before summer.

But, friends of mine in FL and TX with no kids avoid the heat and crowds of summer camping. They prefer the fall, winter and spring so there might be some differences depending where you live.

We have a saying for that around here - there are 2 seasons: winter and 4th of July

Not sure that works in Canada, but I think Triguy made some good points. In a northern climate spring is the busy season for sales, but why not test the water now with an add? Might find the right buyer looking to upgrade. If you don't get what you want, wait. When word got out we bought a new camper, two people called us about buying our popup before we even put it up for sale. There was snow on the ground and we figured it wasn't a good time. Got full price in cash and never even had a chance to get it prepped and setup to take pictures for an add...

I worry about listing it now and then plans fall through and we can't get the new one we will be out a sweet pop up that are hard to find, I will play it safe and sell in the spring or at least list after the RV show when we hope to order.

Lots of good info here.
