233S Pole falling down in tipout

Howdy folks,

The pole that holds up the canvas over one of our tip-outs keeps falling out. I've never been crazy about this system, the pole rests on the bottom of the black peg attached to the support beam. You would think the peg would fit inside the pole to keep it secure.

In any case, the black peg looks pretty chewed up from the pole sliding on it each time it gets put up or down. Now it pops out whenever the wind blows.

Does anyone know the replacement part number for this thing or where I can buy one? We have a trip coming soon and the pole is falling out just parked in the driveway. (The camper is level front to back and side to side)

Not upside down, but backwards. The straight end goes on the tent side.

It appears he's got the shepherds pole in backwards. The end with the hole should be at the end that curves, and it attaches up at the trailer wall. The long straight end goes on the black peg. My Roo did not have a hole on the long straight end that went on the black peg.

On the other hand, I don't see how you could ever hook it up backwards.

Dear LORD! For 2 years we've used the poles BACKWARDS. I'm... in utter astonishment.

Stunned.

Only words I have are THANK YOU!

Wow! Glad we could help. (I guess you can hook it up backwards!)

So will it stay in now that you turned it around or do you still need a new part?

Might I suggest quick review of the manual to be sure nothing else is bassackwards? Some things don't look right even when they are.

Happy camping.

We have a 2016 23ws, and I can assure the end with the curve goes on the trailer wall, and he holes in the shepherd poles are useless.

I bought two of those black attachments on eBay. They are standard on most popups and hybrids.

As far as I know, such specific hybrid info, has NEVER been in the manual.

Please relate any owners manual info, in your manual, that is specific to hybrids.

The only thing mine had, was one sheet of paper about care and maintenance of the canvas.

It stays in just fine. Still surprised that I was that dumb.

I'm pretty careful about everything in there... water, gas, battery connections etc. Overlooked the easy thing.

Agree with bikendan, our 23IKSS did not come with anything that told how to set up the canvas ends at all. Just the one sheet care and maintenance for the canvas itself. We bought ours new and the dealer showed us how to deploy the canvas and even then, once home and trying to replicate what they did, we had a momentary lapse of memory! Wish FR provided more detailed owner's manuals.

Good post! I too was not sure how to set up the poles and I just had a hybrid for 6 years before this, a picture page with text instructions would have been nice, maybe we should put one together for future new owners, we could also inform about common things like battery cut off switch, tv set up etc, these rigs really are awesome and fun but they do have a learning curve I think we could help with.

FWIW, I did find a replacement part with a quick google search here:

Forest River I0100 Palomino / Forest River Pop-Up Camper Bed Pole Connector Base - 2 Pack | Hanna Trailer Supply Oak Creek, Wisconsin

Although I am curious how they managed to stay up at all if they were in backwards?

I've had 2 popups myself and known several others with pop-ups/hybrids and can't envision how the poles could have possibly worked if they were reversed. The ones we always had were shaped like a big "L".

Good idea! We also had a hard time figuring out how to fold the bed end up properly when we first got it. Thankfully, the owners on this forum are so helpful when you have an issue.

You do know UTube has videos on the Roos. Setup and care. RV Wholesalers put them up.
