23IKSS Floorplan Confusion.

Hello all,

Has there been a change to the floorplan of the IKSS? My wife and I are shopping around looking for the best deal and we are seeing 2 different floorplans. The one that is odd has the couch and dinette positions reversed, and has the entertainment center right next to the front bunk. There is also a pantry with a glass insert that says pantry right next to the door.

Here is a link showing it. 2016 Forest River ROCKWOOD 23IKSS ROO, Chippewa Falls WI - - RVtrader.com

we thought originally that these might just be pictures from another model just to show colors, but it has an island and nothing else does, so we are very confused.

The odd floor plan is the new 2016 floor plan. Looks like all the Roo's had a floor plan adjustments to make room for a larger shower with shower doors.

On the 23IKS not sure on why they flipped the couch? I could understand the pantry as it provides bulk storage that is not on the slide out. The entertainment center must be to address privacy for the front bunk.

The new shower and pantry are common with other TT and 5ers in the Forest River lines.

We should see Forest River post the new 2016 models to their website this week.

Thanks for the info. I guess we will have to try to get a 2015.5, because we definitely do not like the changes. Do I really need a big glass insert that says Pantry on it? Lol

Just noticed that the link I posted has the 2 chairs and dinette where they used to be, but I have seen them reversed on other sites. I actually like the reversal of those two things. We plan on getting the hide-a-bed so that would move it away from the other bunk some, but I guess it would make it really hard to use if turtled.

AlariWild,

I have been shopping the 23IKSS for the last two+ years. This year has had the most impact to the floor plan. I didn't really like how they made the island smaller, (2014) but understand some of the reported reasons.

I like the new bathrooms with shower doors on the shower.

I am sure the slide out flip was done, because it was common with another model. Why build two different layouts on that size of side out? Note the large window follows the table. At first I don't like the flip as it limits turtling, but might be a better sleeping location. I will wait to see how it works in person.

I like the pantry, as it provides storage for heavy things like can goods, but the glass door?

The entertainment center, not sure about that. 1. They put the main control panel at my sons level? 2. The TV provides for viewing in the kitchen, but it's strange to have the TV blocking the door into the RV? 3. Nice to have some privacy for the front bunk and extra storage for kid toys.

With the floor plan changed I adjusted the list of first mods:

1. Replace pantry door with a plain slab door to get ride of the glass. This will provide additional storage options to hang things on the inside of the door.
2. Buy another cabinet door to install over the main control panel. Will need to find a suitable latch to prevent access by my son.

We've found that is the 2016.5. You should be able to find new 2016.0's which would have the older floor plan.

What establishes the model year of the RV? Is it the VIN date or when the manufacture releases the official models?

If you go by the VIN date why do manufactures list the VIN as 2016, before they release the official 2016 models?

It appears most manufactures officially release the new models after their dealer open house in September of each year.

This year the Dealer Open House was last week Sept. 22-24. Forest River told me they are planing on releasing the details about the 2016 models this week (after the Dealer Open House).

So wouldn't the units with 2015 floor plans and maybe 2016 dates really be 2015.5 or 2015+ or 2016- units? Many of these transitional units neither reflect 2015 or 2016 published models.

I hope the official site get's the updated floor plans and models sometime soon. I have seen the 23ws out there which is really cool, but is not on the Forest River site yet. Do either of you know if any of the other existing models are changing their floor plans? Are they all getting the new shower since Rockwood likes to do everything the same?

Looking at the newer Roo they have all had the larger shower. These are the same showers they have been using in the 5ers and standard hard side trailers, so I imagine they upgraded them on all hybrids.

Hopefully we will have an official release soon.

Don't hold your breath. When I bought my 2015 one year ago, they still had the early 2014 on their site.

Don't expect updates to the website, any time soon.
FR is infamous for taking months to do that.
RVW's website often has updated Roo floorplans/specs before FR'S does.

RVW has the new 23WS floor plan with the new bathroom, but the other models are the 2014/2015. If you build a custom unit you need to select the color scheme, but still no new photos of the color choices.

23IKSS Floorplan Confusion.

I don't get the new theatre seats when the Media center has the TV facing the other way? I still am glad I got my 2015.5 in April in Cherry with Willow, love this thing

They also did something strange with the microwave?

They moved the microwave from above the stove to above the counter space next to the stove. The cabinets above the stove are shorter with the range hood mounted below the cabinets. This gives more room above the stove for cooking.

I'm still glad I got mine as an early 2015. None of the latest " upgrades" would be a dealbreaker to me if I were shopping today, but really the only thing I don't like about mine is the storage next to the oven. I have the two drawers covered by two doors combo. A real pita. I can understand the changes to the shower as one of the frequent complaints on this forum is the size of the older ones. Not an issue for me as we normally camp at state parks without full hookups so we use the bathhouse there. No need to drain our 36 gallons taking showers. So as I said, just glad I got mine a year and a half ago.

TV is on an arm. So it swings out. Which now blocks the door.

The drawers behind the doors next to the stove is left over from 2014, I think. I have seen 2015 & 2016 models without the doors. Just two drawer fronts in cabinet next to the stove.

Kitchen Area Changes:

2011/2012: lower cabinet next to the stove had one door on the left side and the right side had a bank of three small drawers. The space behind the door had a pass through to the exterior. (I am not real positive on these as I just started looking at Roos in 2013).

2012/2013: the island had doors on the back side (facing the living room slide) and the cabinet depth was about 6" deeper. The lower cabinet next to the stove had the large doors behind two doors. The pass though was removed .

2014/2015: island not as deep & only doors on front side. Lower cabinet next to the stove eliminated doors in front of two drawers. Now just two drawer fronts.

2015/2016: entertainment center next to the entry door is turned into a large pantry. Microwave moved from above the stove to above the adjacent counter top. The cabinets above the stove are reduced in height to raise the bottom of the exhaust hood even with the bottom of the microwave .

I know the refrigerator has changed curbing the years, but not sure about those.

Just odd that they would change the 23IKSS and add the 23WS and not mention all this in their website. I like my 2015.5 23IKSS fully loaded in Willow but it will be interesting to see what other variants come in a Roo. I was looking at the 21SS and the 21BD at first but like the extra storage in the 23IKSS.
