If they are pitting, then it may seem as they were washed with some sort of tough detergent. My dad had a limo company and I used to use dawn dish detergent with hot water on the alloy wheels, once cleaned I put armor all on a clean cloth and wiped it on, then wait about 2-3 minute and wipe it off with another clean rag, keeps dirt from sticking and gives them a decent shine. I did this to my 2015 Roo wheels and they look good, but I do not use much on the sidewall it will cause cracking over time, just remember to wipe off the residue
