And.....no camper...

Yesterday could be summed up as a no good, very bad, day.

Dropped the wife off to pick up the expedition that was getting the brake pkg installed, and I head to the RV dealer to finish up the paperwork on the camper. I had not given him the bank draft at this point, only a deposit (which he very promptly cashed, btw).

I get there, he tells me he can't accept the bank draft, he only takes cashier's checks. Now, he's got rigs on his lot that are $500k rigs, and he wants to be paid outright, doesn't want to hassle with bank paperwork? Then he says that the price we agreed to doesn't pay off the loan for the camper, he owes more than our purchase price and even if the guy he brokered the deal for paid the difference in cash to the bank, that the bank wouldn't release it because he had one loan tied to all 3 RVs he traded in. I'm listening to him and I'm thinking, since when is a bank going to do one loan for multiple VINs? And then i think, 3rd RV? The guy had only traded in 2 when we first here. Stories are going from bad to worse here.

So, deal's a bust, call the wife who is now on her way home with a brand new P3 installed with now no camper to put it to use. Not a good ending this week like we had hoped. Back to the drawing board

Yea, we did. Much preferred to have the camper in possession vs our check back though.

I'd stay away from that dealer for any future deals for sure.

"Goes without saying" is usually not the case. X2

Give RVWholesalers.com a look.
You may find you can buy new for only a few dollars more.

I didn't know they did either....until I did it. Owed two years on a car a number of years ago and found myself in a position where I had to buy another on short notice. I didn't want another payment, so I ended up financing the new one plus enough to pay off the other car using both as collateral. The down side is you don't get the title to either one until the loan is paid off. I wouldn't do it again.

That said, a decent dealer would have contacted the bank and got the payoff details ahead of time (and probably wouldn't have wanted to mess with it) and you wouldn't have had these surprises.

I tried to help a friend who had 3 vehicles on one consolidation loan and he needed to sell one of them. It was impossible.

The entire loan needed to be satisfied in order to get clear title to the one he needed to sell. Due to his poorer credit, he could not have qualified for the loan on the remaining (now used) vehicles.

Total mess.

I hate paying a price to find out that the other guy is a schmuck.
Document everything now so that you can present a case if he tries to pull anything or you want your deposit back.
A deals a deal and trying to pull the back end negotiations has always been a breaker for me.
