geocaching is similar in concept to letterboxing but you get to use billions of dollars worth of military hardware.

You use GPS handheld receivers (iPhones will work these days too) to find 'geocaches' hidden by other players. Geocaching - The Official Global GPS Cache Hunt Site

There are all kinds of caches all over the world and 'travel bugs' and 'coins' that 'travel' between them.

We seem to have a lot in common - new 233S, both live in NoVA, both have Sequoias for TVs and now metal detecting. I grew up in Mississippi not far from Vicksburg. Did a lot of coin hunting around schools and old housesites, but mostly did relic hunting. Spent many winter weekends combing the nearby bluffs. Most of what my dad, brother and I found was Confederate, not surprisingly. My best find was a nice cast brass CSA buckle, with all 3 hooks still intact. Found it 2" deep in the football field of an elementary school - go figure. Sold it 5 yrs later to buy my first used car. Also have a nice collection of buttons. Have a Whites 6000 Di Pro but haven't swung it much over the last 8 years. Still have all my gear and take it with me whenever vacationing at the beach. With the new TT, figure I now have a new excuse to get back into it.

Maybe we ought to get together and test out these new TTs and swing the detectors as well. I have mine opened up in the driveway trying to figure out where to put everything. It looked pretty good with the snow this morning. Made me want to be in the mountains hunting.

Have you taken your TT out yet?

If you ever get down this way there are lots of places to hunt. What's it like in your part of the world? Tell us the details about Alberta hunting.
