Awning arm? Repair
Hi, I have a question. I have a damaged piece to my awning. It is the "arm" that slides out when awning is opened. The pin is broken on the top and I have attached it with wire. Does anyone know where I can purchase this piece? not sure what its even called.

Don't know what it's called either, but suspect it has the word "hinge" and/or "bracket" in it.

That is a Dometic and I don't think Dometic will sell parts for their hardware sets. I tried and the only option was to buy the entire hardware kit.

I cut about an inch off of the arm.....then redrilled it. Then attached with a stainless bolt and nut. Took about ten minutes. Length is not critical as the two arms interlock.

Might also check a real RV dealer out the may have some broken awnings that they have kept parts from.

Why not remove it and have a pc or pcs welded to it and re-drill the holes?

I think the arm is referred to as a "rafter." I caught a gust of wind, and mine broke at the other end..the cast aluminum part that snaps into the support arm. While fixing that, I noticed how the holes were wallowed out on the other end (where you are having trouble.) One side was really bad...but it was so quick and easy, I did both sides. Your dealer will have replacement rafter assys, but they were fairly expensive. Like I said, since that part telescopes into the other part......length is not at all critical, so you have plenty of material to work with. I didnt like the rivet idea, so I just used a SS bolt and locknut. It keeps the support arm from overlapping the rafter when in the folded position....but the locking mechanism still holds everything in place. For as light as that metal is...its amazing it lasts at all. BTW, mine is a Dometic 8500. Good luck!

Are you talking about the bracket thats screwed to the camper? It should be pretty solid.
If you pull the awning out about a foot (like you are going to set it up)...take the tension knob off of the rafter......then unscrew the bracket thats mounted to the camper. You can then lift the damaged arm, and take it to the bench where you can work on it. You might want to check the other side while you're at it.

I tried tightening the bolts but they don't move. I didn't want to apply too much pressure to make them break.

The brackets are just lagged into the framing. I doubt you will break the lag bolts.
