Axle Replacement Cost

I need to get a new axel on our 2013 Shamrock which I see eTrailer has for about $300+ with wheel hubs. Local big name dealer just quoted $1500 installed just for axel which seems insane. Anyone have an axel installed and what did you pay? Thanks.

Swing by a local utility trailer place and see what they'll charge you to replace the axle. I bet it's a lot more reasonable than an RV dealer. And they'll probably do a better job.

What that basically means is that they don't want to do it, but if you're stupid enough to pay $1500 they will.

Changed out my own axle.... that did not come with hub/brake assembly. I changed over the hubs/brakes to the new axle.

Not hard to do if you have a friend or two. Flat area to work, Heavy Jack stands, floor jack. Basic tools to remove/replace axle to leaf springs.

If you do not want to change your own axle. Look for an independent RV shop or trailer shop. A shop that knows what they are doing will take about 2-3 hours. No messings with changing over hubs and brakes. Lift up unit... snip wires, drop old axle, roll out of way. Roll in new axle, attach to leaf springs (this would be a good time to replace the leafspring Bushings before attaching new axle) Re-attach wires... test wiring/ brakes... drop unit on the ground and good to go... MY estimate... no more than 400.00

Not sure what type of axle you have but we had two, 4K lb Torsion Axles replaced last year and the labor was ~$450 from an independent shop in Iowa. The axles came from FR under warranty so I don’t know what they cost. Hope that helps. [emoji106]

I wanted to provide an update that I found a trailer build/repair shop (all trailers, not just camping) and out the door $560. Another RV dealer was $1000 and the original RV Dealer was $1500. Took a while to find this shop, but to save $500-$1000 was worth it.
