Bed Questions for Hybrid

Hi all-

I read your posts all of the time. Unfortunately, I'm more of a learner and not much of an advice-giver. One day that will change!

8 more days until our walk through with our 23ikss.

Background:

In our PUP we kept mattress pads on the mattresses, put down a clean fitted sheet on each trip, and unzipped sleeping bags for covers.

Question:

How do you do your beds?

1) Will I still feel the heated mattresses with mattress pads on?
2) Do you use a sheet set and comforters?
3) Do you leave this on for a few camping trips or strip the beds at the conclusion of each trip?
4) With our kids almost empty nesters, I'm thinking that we can dress up our beds more without fear of ruining quilts/comforters....thoughts??

There will be several answers, I'm sure. We put memory foam under mattress and put sheets on mattresses. I personally just tuck the extra sheet length under mattress. Use a comforter on top. Strip everything when we get home. If you turn on the heated mattress on a few hours before bed, you will be warm..

The heated mattress is only 150 watts (a good sized light bulb). So don't be expecting to stick your hand under the covers and feel it warm like an electric blanket. It does the trick, however.

1. Yes
2. Yes (DW's preference)
3. Strip after each trip
4. We don't dress up our bed and it's just the two of us.

1. We leave a fairly thin mattress pad (2") on all the time - doesn't affect the heated mattress.
2. Even though the mattress isn't a true queen we use regular queen sheet sets. The fitted sheet stays on fine. We take the pillows and comforter or sleeping bags off before folding up, but leave everything else on.
3. We fold up the sheets with the beds. Just me, but after a 2 night trip, I don't worry about stripping the beds. So, no, don't strip the bed after every trip.
4. We use a comforter on each bed. No more likely to have any issues that at home. And, since you have an IKSS - we found the table will rub against the island while traveling. So rather than fold it down everytime to secure it, we just put one comforter over the table like a table cloth. Protects both sides - the island and the window side - from damage while traveling.

We just got our 233s and DW and I were discussing this very topic this weekend. Here's what we decided:

1) Not too concerned about the heated mattress because we love sleeping in the cold, and it doesn't get very cold where we camp to begin with. But we will be putting a foam topper of some sort over the mattress.
2) We'll be getting sheet set and comforters
3) We'll be taking them out each time to clean then find a place to store them in the trailer.
4) Haven't really thought about it. I don't think we'll be taking any nice bedding so I'm not too worried about them being too ruined.

Thanks for your responses. I loved learning about protecting the island with a comforter over the dinette. Monday can't come soon enough to do the walk through. I can't wait!!

I have a gel/foam topper that I use on top of the mattress. I bought two sets of sheets for my trailer, when I pack up at the end of a trip (our longest is 5 days) I just take the dirty sheets off and put clean sheets on, fold the topper (with clean sheets) and put it on the table. This just makes setting up a little easier. The dirty sheets get washed and put away in the trailer for the next trip.

I got a mattress topper for my bunk. I put a full size sheet on the bottom of it, the topper and fitted sheet on the top. This way when I remove it to close up the trailer I just roll and tied it and toss it on my dinnet.
I don't like sleeping bags, to slippery. I make my bed with a sheet and blankets. I turn the heater on at dinner and if covered it will be nice and warm at bed time. I typically have to turn it down during the night. I do have kids so I used old blankets and comforters. Personally I wash the sheets after each trip, but with 4 dirt attracting kids, they need it.
Now you don't have this issue, but we roll up my topper with my pillows inside then toss the quilt over it and use it as a couch. (Family of 7) if we watch a movie to decompress at night, sitting space is an issue.
My topper is too thick to allow me to close up the bunk with it still on the mattress. If I have the room I move my mattress too, then I can close it up alone.
