Wow... What an ordeal. Sorry for you that you are having to deal with it. Plus missed out on any camping before the season pretty much wrapped up. That stinks...

Hi newbold1 - that is the kicker of it all... We had a RV transport company pick it up from the factory in July to meet us halfway. We had the trailer back in Aug and while we were camping started noticing sore throats and sinus issues and discovered the factory actually used some of the original moldy wood and put it back into the trailer or worked around some of the moldy wood. Plus some other defects like no running water due to a kinked fresh water hose they put in. We are now trying to get them to finish what they started or why did we send it down and pay for it to come back? So much wasted time and money on this trailer.

It is not acceptable by any standards. I see some peoples are more lucky than the others for doing the repairs properly under the warranty. I was one of the lucky ones for all the majors issues on my trailer with 2 complete floors replaced with new ones, a new complete back wall, 2 front luggages doors and 2 trips to the factory in Indiana. After all this I can say that I am happy with my trailer now but what about the stress I went through and the time I loss my trailer for the repairs!!!!!

Yes they did quite a lot of work on ours too with floor, cabinets etc... So why leave some of the rotten material or use it and send it back to us that way. We are in BC Canada so it is a very long way to Indiana. Originally they said they weren't going to do anything more at all and it sounds like our dealer got them to reconsider. Yes a lot of stress, sleepless nights worrying and I still pay for it every month to the bank. The reason we didn't notice the mold smell at first was they had put on new bunk ends and there was a strong canvas smell for the first few weeks and also camping Oceanside we had fresh air.

I've been watching this thread very closely as I also have the newer bunk end design. No leaks at this point, but you can bet your ass that i'll be moding the adjustable bar that attaches to the bunk end U-bar.

Any updates?

Just got back from 5 nights out, 2 nights with rain. 2012 Roo19. No leaks on front bunk. Haven't used the back one, no leaks there with it closed. I did notice that the black rubber gasket they glued to the opening that the bunk door closes onto isn't the straightest job in the world.

Update on my trailer is the dealer and FR won't take any further action to finish what was started with the moldy wood. So even though the factory worker blatantly put back wood with black mold on it and worked around other rotten wood we are stuck with it and have to pay a restoration company or RV specialist to take things apart again and finish the job. Every Roo owner watch your bunk ends. Ours leaked while closed and others are leaking while the tent ends are out. Check for rusty screws. I wish I had noticed that sooner, watch the hinge and make sure the gutters are not sitting flush in line with the bunk door seals. We are an example of spending a huge amount of money and camping 2 summers before losing the trailer to water and then mold damage.

These threads on leaking bunks really pushed me away from Forest River Products...sorry for your troubles maybe someday they will come around..

Yes I hope that other owners will keep checking things and notice things. It was our second FR product but the travel trailer is a lot different than the Rockwood pop up we had. That thing leaked on our first trip out that should have have been a red flag to not buy another trailer from the same brand.

Kwillmott - sorry to hear the latest outcome on your camper. I know that financially I would be hard pressed to fix this shoddy work out of my own pocket if it were me dealing with this issue. A ruined camping season plus added costs... I feel for you!

Hi Newbold 1- thank you for your reply and thoughts. yes we are hard pressed to try and come up with extra money to continue fixing this trailer so that we can use it. I am not made of money we are a younger family with 2 kids in sports and bought this trailer to camp in the summertime. I had to come up with $2500 in July to have RV transport bring it from the factory o Montana so my husband could take a week off work and drive to go meet it. Otherwise it would have cost us closer to $4,000 to bring it to the BC /Washington state border. Another $300 spent for the dealer to fix the gutters that should have been done and I pay $320 a month for the loan on this thing. I don't have any more money right now to even put out on this thing. It has been 16 months of waiting for the factory /dealer to come up with something and we now know neither will finish this unless we pay the rest which will be thousands for labor to take it apart again and the parts. I have spoken with a local consumer reporter and looking into legal advice. How fair is it to us to have to keep paying? Another kicker - I have to pay $350 to renew the insurance on this thing. Pay insurance for a toxic moldy trailer that I can't use. I just keep shaking my head. I wonder how many others are going through this same thing right now.

I had a great conversation with Brett from FR at RV show today. We talked about issues I have had and design flaws that I have seen and have modified myself. I would like to say thanks to FR and Brett for the reassurance and all the help they are doing to re-assure no more leaks. He understood my frustration and all is well now. Thanks FR

I've been looking at the Roo for several months. Will not purchase one until 1st of year. Can everyone offer a list of precautions and work-a-rounds to prevent any water damage.

So what is your location?? If you are buying new still look for rusty screws on bunk ends that is a sign of leaky ends. That is the biggest problem and will ruin a weekend quickly

....I'm in Texas. Actually I am considering having one ordered since we have about six months before we will be traveling again. (TW is having back surgery next week) We have a 2005 Rockwood popup and have never had any kind of leak issues. All this talk about leaks is troubling.

Maybe if there has been any modifications made recently they would be on a unit that is being ordered now. Hope so.

They are always improving the design and after meeting in Toronto, with FR quality control manager things are better. They have taken my suggestions and I showed him some concerns, and by the time you get your trailer, I will bet they will have it fixed. Personally a trailer that sat on lot open is probably a better buy, since it has been soaked in rain and sun any problems will be present on delivery. Your plus is you are in Texas I'm in Ontario and we have have cold spring and falls heater setup is a issue up here I think. Why heat a bathroom with a fantastic fan that you must leave going to remove humidity, your sucking heat out and not humidity. My big beef on 19 roo.

It is good to see they are taking suggestions to improve things which will benefit new and future Roo owners but that does nothing for the people that have bad designs/leaking problems now unfortunately.
