Brand new 2012 taking on water

A sleep in Parry Sound as I'm woken up by heavy rains, I do a inspection of the rear tent end and what do I find a steady drip of water through the corner seal approaching mattress.

You're best to take this into your dealer and have them look at it under warranty. First, you want to jump on this quickly. Second, an official paper trail will help if you have another problem down the road that can be tied to this.

Its always tough when there is a leak and especially with a new trailer. Good luck.

Is this the first time the bunk ends have gotten wet? If so, the thread in the seams need to get wet/dry for it to expand and seal the needle holes. The first thing I did when I got my new camper home was to set it up and hose down the tenting just for this reason.

What latner says is true. The seams do need to be seasoned per the manual, although they are not exactly sieves coming from the factory. Its more like beads of water instead of a steady drip.

Still, let it dry thoroughly and then test it again with your hose. Might work.

Thanks all. I saw rust on the screw and ignored it thinking it was not a problem. Now that I caught it leaking it's a whole different ball game. I looked at it today and it makes no sense why and how it's leaking but the video I took and the pictures are excellent for my argument of a leak. All 3 corners are sealed and no rust visible.

As the water continues and the excuse from Forest River demands a buyer beware warning or lawsuit.

I'm embarrassed to put a tarp over that end in a brand New 2012 trailer but with the traffic at this campsite bad advertising for forest river.

We just packed up rear bunk at 12:15 as both rear corners are flooding. Moved my soon as the roof is forming big water droplets in each corner. And as forest river told my dealership this was normal as the stitching had to swell. Oh okay. And a car leaking oil is normal as the seals must swell also.

Sorry to hear that you are dealing with this.

Did your dealer take care of that hole in the roof that was discovered after taking delivery? No chance this could be related?

I hope things get better for you & your family.

Hi. The hole in the roof is still in the roof and the funny thing no water is entering that way. This rear bunk has issues is not level the bar and stitching are not even compared with front. Heavy water droplets on roof inside and is leaking through canvas like the old tents. We are on a weeks vacation and we are screwed, rain in forecast again tomorrow things like this when you spend a lot of money make you really mad.

They just replaced the 2 bunks end on my son 2012 roo 17 because of damages caused by water not draining properly in the lower horizontal channels and wetting the lower bed. the lower section of the luan was soft and the staples were rusty. This problem was when the bunks were in closed position.

Well at home now. Dealer sent me email going to replace all rear of trailer including mattress. One of the biggest issues with rear bunk is lack of ventilation I'm going to look into allowing air to move from rear bunk into washroom moisture buildup is bad. Our front bunk this morning all the sides roof and metal holding down roof was wet inside trailer is this normal??

This is caused by the humidity inside the trailer. You will notice it more during the end of the season when it start go get cold outside and you heat the inside. This was my problem with my previous tent trailer. To eliminate this problem or help the problem leave the fantastic fan in the bathroom running all night at low speed. You can keep the bathroom door closed because there is plenty of room for the air to circulate over the top of the door and under. This will help a lot for preventing the condensation to build up on the cold surface like the tent metal frame etc.

Capuchine is right. Cold temps, a camper that is buttoned up and lots of people exhaling moisture while sleeping will cause this.

Also, installing vent covers (if you don't have them yet) on your vents is nice in case of rain. Allows circulation to control the humidity at all times. We rarely close our vents now.

Hi all when we have our fan running we get a whistle from front bunk at lower bottom behind dinette. It's a pressure issue does everyone else get this??? I figured that because my rear is so wet also that it helped create a lot of moisture in trailer (mattress) As we left our camp site a 2008 ish roo with old style tent ends came in beside us never had rain in front and rear bunks, this new style seams to be a headache it's too air tight and does not allow water to properly run off trailer bunks.

Well it's a huge design flaw with the metal bracket screwed and glued to the door. Just did testing I have a water leak minor at 10 inches of spray and major at 30 inches will show in pictures. When water comes in if the tent ends are tight and buckled like mine it makes mattress wet if lose the water stays on tent side of bracket and travels towards trailer hinged end and accumulates.

On my trailer door side I have a gap between screen and zipper closure and you can see buckling of tenting from top to the bottom and on brown tenting across bottom ripples. If FR reads this thread wake up do you test your designs and each unit as made for quality assurance??

Thanks for everyone reading and your comments but FR needs a fix and needs to listen just not replace and hopes it goes away.

Patkins: if you hear this whistle it is because there is not enough air intake for the suction of your fan. Just leave the top screens flaps opened a bit so the air will circulate. Like that your noisy whistle will go away. Good luck with your bunks. We will have my son 2012 roo this coming week with the 2 replaced bunks and I will post a tread when we have it. Apparently they are different than the ones he had before and caused damages to the luan board etc.

Thanks for the message I new the whistle was from pressure it's just getting the correct amount with out freezing of water entering. I have seen new ends on here and they are clean and not as tight as mine. My tent ends look like they were made by a 3 year old they used more clear silicone then I used on my shower. If I was a future forest river roo purchaser I would be thanking people like me. The Internet and forums like this are here to help people purchase great products not marginal products.
