Bunk ends and black box screws

The interior bottom canvas rail that is secured by about 5 box screws have separated from the laminate(stripped the holes). Makes for a rough entry into the beds and will cause the mattresses to tear if not careful. Has anyone else experienced separation of the interior bottom portion of the canvas, and is the fix as easy as just running new screws along the rail?

Here's pics of two different bunk ends (the third is the same). All have about 5-6 black square head screws along the top inner rail. The gap between the laminate and the canvas rail is large enough to allow at least 1-2 keys to slip under it. If you look behind the rail, you may notice that the actual frame of the bunk end is at least 11/2 inches below the front where the canvas rail is located.

Have you contacted your dealer to see what they suggest? If they were unwilling to solve or correct the problem, I would put in new screws. I don't know why they use those screws, as they are definitely sharp and destructive to the mattress (not to mention people!).

I had a similar type issue, and FR's solution was to send me plastic rails that are supposed to snap OVER the existing rails. Needless to say, it wasn't really a solution, so I installed my own screws (rounded top) and caulked as needed (FR provided the caulk). So far it's worked. Unfortunately I don't have pics at the moment (Darn HOA and their rules about not allowing parking at my house), but will post some when I can.

I have a Roo19 with same issue. I was wondering how you got in my trailer to take pictures. Sure seems like different type of screw should have been used. From first hand experience, the screws will tear the mattress. I was planning on taping over or replacing screws.

My Shamrock came with the plastic strip covers that snap over these and covers them up, haven't had any issues with them.

I have considered just holding down the plastic stripping with a dab of silicone and tossing the screws.

I also have the plastic strip covers that slide and snap over the lower covers with the screws.

One came off and slid under the mattress. Retrieved and reinstalled.
