Cable TV cable

The RV park we are staying at this week has cable TV service. (I know, weird.) But since it is here we thought we'd check it out. Of course, a coax cable was not in our "to bring" list for the trailer. So before I go out and get one, is there anything special that I need to consider? Do I need a different type of cable if it is going to be exposed to the elements?

I keep two 25' chunks of co-ax in one of my compartments for hooking up my satelite dish... (with a 5 year old; TV is a lifesaver on rainy afternoons, but I digress...)

Neither are anything special; one I made myself, one I got from Home Depot for a couple of bucks. As long as it's not laying in water, it'll be fine; and most jackets are UV resistant, so being outdoors wont hurt them.

RG-6 is good, RG-59 would work though, don't need anything fancy - Walmart, Lowes Depot, can get it just about anywhere...

I use these for the ends and they work very well. Don't have to fight to get it connected to the pole and to your camper.

No, you don't need any special coax cable.
I have two 10' sections.
I assume your tv is already connected to the cable male end inside.

On older Roo/Shamrock hybrids, tvs weren't standard so you needed an inside coax cable.

Thanks. Picked up a 25' coax at the Radio Shack in Estes Park this afternoon. Watching the Broncos play the Titans. So this is camping, eh?

Question I have is, how do you get cable from a campground without some type of cable box? In the old analog days, you could get a lot of cable channels without a cable box.

A lot of Cable companies still have "straight2TV" cable available that will get you limited channels. I know that Time Warner in some areas, and BrightHouse still allow for TV without Cable boxes.

the campgrounds has a commercial cable box/account, like a motel does and it feeds to all the campsites.

your motel room doesn't need a cable box in each room, to receive the channels, including channels like HBO.

so neither does a campground that has cable.

We have the same cable set up at work it's one box with a splitter like thing on it. Feeds five sets I would assume it's the same for campgrounds.

Coax cable is very cheap but we have had the same 25 ft section for 10 years. We don't leave home without it

No box needed. ....... Interesting every private campground we have stayed at has cable, thought it would be weird not to have cable at a private campground. You do need to have your TV scan for all the channels.

No box required but I ain't seen true HD at a campground yet so be prepared for some fuzzy stretched out pictures. Don't bother some folks but once you get use to 1080 HD the wide screen SD hurts your eyes 😜

Yep. We have become very spoiled. Even with Sat at home, I won't watch a show/station that isn't full HD..
