Can 2002 GMC Yukon Denali(not xl), base tow-haul pkg/ pull 2012 23ss ROO?

I am battling back and forth on this. Keep old or shop for new!!!

Is the Yukon capable of handling my current towing needs and if so what do I need to make it work? OR, start looking for new?

On current yukon, the original auto ride feature (air compressor and air shocks) have been dismantled and new non air KY socks installed.

What is GVWR (max capacity) of a 2012 23 ss ROO?

If TT is loaded (gvwr max)can the 2002 GMC pull it?

If so what type of WDH do I consider? Equalizer bars, etc? If it sags how do I get the rear up? Brake assist type??


If I do go new, I am seriously looking at the 2014 F-150, eco boost. Do I go with 3.55 or 3.73?? and why??, Do I go with max tow pkg?? why?? go with HD tow pkg?? why?? Size of tires?? why??

Alot questions here, but would appreciate any input. Newbie at TT, moving up from pop-up.

you need to provide the specs on your Yukon.
Engine, trans, rear end ratio, HD factory tow package or not.
Also how many will be in the vehicle and what's the Yukon's payload capacity.

Denali is 8,200 lbs
XL Denali is 8,000 lbs.

Per my 2012 Roo brochure, the GVWR for the 2012 Roo 23SS is 6,347.

So you should be fine.

We have a 2003 GMC 1500 4x4 pickup extended cab with the small 4.8 V8, a 2011 ROO 23ss, I always fill the water tank, the fridge is always FULL, camp supplies inside as well as 2 kayaks in the camper. Then the truck with a topper on has bikes, chairs, generator,spare LP, wood, grill, and lots of other supplies! It pulls just fine, don't even know its back there sometimes.Just can't be in a hurry to get there! Also have the bars with the chain links for a WDH. Only get about 9 MPG, but o well its fine for now!

I know this is an older post but I was surprised at the lack of responses to this kind of question. I have a 2012 23SS started out towing with a 2009 Silverado 1500 5.3L 4x4 without a towing package. I thought it towed OK, I mean I never had any issues or anything so it can handle it. Then in 2011 I bought an F150 XLT 4x4 5.0L 3.73 axle the only towing pkg it had was the hitch & integrated brake controller. I could not believe the difference in towing the F150 was completely different & better. I didn't have the acceleration declines that I noticed with Chevy. I like the way the F150 tows much better, but that's just one guy's opinion.

Wait for the 2015 F150 with ecoboost. It has been re-engineered to be a much better tow vehicle. Made of aluminum it is about 700 lbs. lighter. The frame has been re-engineered to be much stronger. This all adds up to a greatly increased payload capacity. The engine is awesome for towing. I'm considering selling my 2012 for a 2015.

Iriel to be fair no tow package to tow package and 3.73 gear had nothing to do with the basic hardware and all to do with proper gear ratio. That will even make a Ford tow well...lol.
