Can I tow a 2011 233S?

Hi there,
My hubby and I are torn between a 2005 Surveyor and a 2011 Roo 233S. I am just wondering if you guys think I can tow the Roo with an '02 Jeep Cherokee Laredo, V6 (inline). Thoughts?

Thanks!

2011 Roo 233S Dry weight 4134 lbs. cargo capacity 1833 lbs. Gross vehicle weight 6310 lbs. unloaded tongue weight 531 lbs.

Your Jeep has a 5000 lb tow capacity if it has the towing package. Too much trailer for your tow vehicle. Sorry. I wouldn't tow anything heavier than 4000 lbs. GVWR if you have the tow package. Just my humble opinion.

Woops. I meant inline 6.

This would be very disappointing. We finally found a trailer we could see ourselves in for a long time.

Your 'tow vehicle' is also 12 years old. This should also be considered when looking at a camping unit. Age does add to issues and should not be over looks.

We have a 2011 233S and original towed with our 2008 Trailblazer. After a 400 mile trip we decided to upgrade our tow vehicle to a RAM 1500. The Trailblazer could tow the camper, but every time I would come up along a semi the wind would push the vehicles back and forth

I think the tongue weight will be the killer first.

What was the towing capacity of your trailblazer? We would never be taking long trips, driving only 2 hours, maybe 3 at the very most, at a time. And the Jeep is in great shape. Now my dh is looking at trading in for a V8. LOL. What have we gotten ourselves into??

If you like the trailer get it, just get it with another tow rig, please.

We were in the same spot as you a couple months ago. After owning a popup for several years and camping at least 1 every month we decided a hybrid was for us.
Our TV at the time was Toyota Tacoma V6 w/ 6500lb tow capacity. The camper we fell in love with Roo 233S. After many nights of research we decided to purchase the camper and upgrade the tow vehicle.
Good luck with what you decide!

you still haven't any more information about the Jeep.
Is it 2WD or 4WD?
What rear end ratio does it have?
Does it have the factory tow package?
Manual or automatic?
All these affect what the Jeep can tow.
It's the trailer's frontal air resistance that most 6 cyl cars don't do well with.
And the frontal area and payload will be the biggest reasons that the 233S will be too much trailer.
That's not even talking about how old it is and how it will die trying to pull it.

I too have a 233s.. I was towing in with a 05 trailblazer with inline 6.. Truck had a tow capacity of 5500.. It had plenty power... But if a bird flew by the camper the truck became very unstable.. We too upgraded our truck to a new silverado.. We only went home from dealer with the trailblazer and one 60 mile camping trip and that was enough.. Wasn't safe at all..

You have gotten yourselves into a case of "upgrade fever" that we all get into.

Everyone has a slightly different case of it, and it may be you get the bigger trailer first and say "now I need more tow vehicle", or you get the bigger tow vehicle first and say "well now I can pull a bigger trailer" either way, the main symptom is a big decrease in your bank account.

Without the exact specs on your Jeep, I don't know if you can make it work with the 233S, but a 23ft hybrid trailer is really best matched with a half-ton pickup or SUV (with a factory tow package). Its a beefier drive train, and the heavier, longer wheel base vehicle is going to keep the trailer in line better on windy days.

We tow a Roo 21rs, which is 100lbs lighter than the Roo you're looking at. We originally towed it with a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee (V8 with a 6500 lbs tow capacity). Similar to what others found, it pulled it, but I was always worried about being over on payload. Also, the rather short wheel base caused some tense drives when it would start to sway or the wind would push us around. We're safer towing in the 1/2 ton we upgraded to and being safer makes us MUCH happier!

Bottom line: the OP needs to come back and provide more info.
But that Jeep is not going to be adequate for either.
