Canvas Replacement help

I have a 04 Roo 25bh that I bought last year. Got a steal from the dealer because the canvas was attacked by a mouse. They had already ordered the canvas and I said I would install it. All was good last year camping until deer season and the rain. The canvas leaks where it meets the channel of the camper. I wasn't the one who removed the old canvas soI didn't see what if anything that was used to stop water. Do you need to caulk the channel before inserting the canvas or do you do something else? Thanks for the help.
