Cleaning canvas ends

Any advice on how to clean the canvas ends? Looks like we have a bit of mold on the top front end (on the outside), but no other evidence of water damage. It's odd!

Thanks!
Kim

If you have your manual/information package, check it for specific instructions from the manufacturer.

If I remember correctly, our popup said only to wash the tents on the outside with plain water. You do have to be careful as the material can be damaged and then your waterproofing may negatively impacted.

The #1 most important thing - making sure it's 10000% dry before storage!

I have been meaning to clean mine again but haven't gotten to it yet.

I have used Dawn dish washing soap and water. Make sure to do a good job in rinsing off the canvas when you are done. Also, Mr. Clean Magic Eraser's on stubborn spots.

I have heard of others using anywhere from a mild bleach/water solution to a 50/50 mix of bleach and water. Others have used a Canvas Cleaner.

I need to double-check the instructions before I'd recommend those. Mine are in the packet of material I have and that's at home right now.

I use a generic version of Tilex and it does a good job. Also works great on the awning.

the oxy clean does a really good job. One of our campsites last year had a berry tree on it and needless to say they dropped all over one of the tent ends. I had to spend over an hour scrubbing with the Oxy clean, but it all came out.

After cleaning the canvas on the zip sides i found that the waterproof treatment also was gone. I had to retreat the canvas to get it waterproof again. I used the hand spray type 303 brand Fabric Spray instead of the silicone based spray can type. This is not a problem with the vinyl top.

i think rsdata is talking about the canvas windows and i believe he bought it used.
they are not vinylized canvas like the rest of the tent end.

you don't have to do any waterproofing unless you feel the need to.
we've had our '07 Roo 23SS for 8 1/2 years now and have NEVER had to do any waterproofing.

i suggest you wait and see how your tent ends do before worrying about waterproofing.

Popup Gizmos work nice in protecting your bunk ends besides reflecting heat.

I think I would tend to agree with the above comments.

I took possession of my current HW296 pop up and noticed that Rockwood used a different material on the side zippered panels (side bunk end windows). It was not the nice HD vinyl they use through our the pop up. I was concerned about this material leaking. I also came across a few posts where people had leaks and were getting the canvas replaced. I popped my unit up and sprayed water from a hose on it to do a controlled experiment to see if it leaked. Mine did not. I did go out and by some Kiwi HD water repellent (silicone spray) just in case.

When it comes to an RV - water is not your friend. You need to keep that stuff out!

I am lifted by the above post where he got 8+ years without a leak. Lets all hope.

Vin.
