Colorado in July.

2 weeks in Colorado last part of July. Colorado Springs, Breakenridge, then Vail. Suggestions on camping areas? Looking at Garden of the Gods for Colorado Springs. Thanks early!

I don’t know what you want in a campground but if I were planning a trip to Colorado Springs I’d try to get reservations at Cheyenne Mountain State Park.

Looking for plenty to do for a 8 and 4 year old. My kids that pretty much means if there is a pool or lake to swim in their good. Full hook ups including black/grey water...

Kid's will like the train ride up Pike's Peak. Leaves from Manitou Springs. There's a gold mine you can go down into (1,100 ft deep) in Cripple Creek, not to mention another small train ride.

A bit to the west of Colorado Springs is Mueller State Park and the views are amazing. You will be hauling to over 10,000 ft so make sure your rig can handle it. There is a wolf preserve in Divide, CO that is well worth seeing. Reservations required. If you are in the Springs area; take in the Air Force Academy as well.

We stayed at Garden of the Gods CG a few years ago. It made a great central location to drop the trailer and take day trips from to places like pikes peak and cripple creek etc.

It is probably a month or two late for July Mueller reservations. Cheyenne Mountain State Park might still have some openings, but probably not many or for long. I cannot picture a Garden of the Gods RV park, but there are some on Hwy 24 that are close. There is a KOA just south of the Springs on I25. They have amenities, but it is a typical KOA on an interstate. Just a little north in Monument there are parks along the interstate.

The kids will like the Dinosaur museum in Woodland Park. The train through Royal Gorge and Possibly the bridge.

There are some electric spots at Eleven Mile State Park, but like Mueller that is over the pass to the west.

Garden of the Gods, Manitou, cliff dwellings and the cog railway are always accessible from anywhere in the area.

Edit: The Academy (along with other DoD locations) has changed requirements, so it is likely without a DoD ID card you may have a wait to get on base. Updated info is here: http://www.usafa.org/Connect/Visiting

Thanks for all the info! Staying at the Garden of the Gods RV park 4 nights then up to Estes Jellystone park for 3 nights. Gives me 5 more days with 2 of those making my way back to Texas. Was thinking about Grand Canyon on the way back. Worries might be to much on the road time for the Kids. 8 year old would be fine. The 4 year old I worry about. This will be he's 1st long road trip.

Knowing what I know now . . . I would wait a few years on things like the Grand Canyon. We went to Custer State Park and Mt. Rushmore for a week + a couple years ago. We have to go back because the youngest has no memory of it

For the kids, try the North Pole - Santa's Workshop (Things to do in Colorado Springs, Santa's Workshop!North Pole, Colorado — Santa's Workshop Theme Park). Our grand kids love going there.

Deerfield Hills Sprayground is also very fun for kids (https://parks.coloradosprings.gov/ex...s-spray-ground).

Seven Falls is well worth a visit as is the Air Force Academy (be sure to see the Chapel), the Royal Gorge, and Cave of the Winds.

Idaho Springs (just west of Denver) is fun for a couple of days and my kids absolutely loved Glenwood Springs. There is an amusement park and cavern at the end of a tram ride to the top of a mountain there. The hotel at the base has an indoor pool with a big slide. IIRC you need to reserve those two together to save a few bucks if you want to use the pool.

You will need to check the status of Seven Falls. It was hit hard last year in a flood and I think the Broadmoor bought it and is refurbishing for the public.

X2 on the North Pole. My wife worked there in High School. It is great for kids that age.

Downtown is a crazy Uncle Wilbur's Fountain that is a great place for kids during the day in the Summer.

The zoo here is a hike, but has an amazing atmosphere and view.

You also should drive Upper Goldcamp Road. It isn't a 4WD road, but is steep, curvy and has a couple of these:

The mine is The Molly Kathleen Mine. Current hours: 9:00 to 5:00 Tours depart at least every 30 minutes

It might be a little scary for the 4 yr old, but there are really little kids that go down.

We are in Loveland, Co., for a couple of days before we push on to Ogden Ut. It's cold and has been raining here for the last two days

The OP won't be here until July, but snow is always possible in the mountains. Take your time and watch the weather forecasts for reasons to stop and wait it out and you will be fine.

Those are probably your best choices for campgrounds considering the age of your children. I'm sure your family will have a great time.

Again thanks everyone! We've added 2 days in Buena Vista, Co at Arrowhead point resort/RV park. Going to stay in Dodge City, KS Then on to Wichita Falls, TX then home. On my Birthday we will be back south to the 90 degree temps and 100% humidity.

This will be our 1st long trip and 1st trip into the Mtns. Already making check lists from what others have posted on this website. I'm really amazed every time I post something how fast and helpful you all are! Thanks again!
