Complete and Utter Brain Fart

I'm almost embarrassed to tell you this...

So I keep my Roo at my lake site full time (at least till the cabin is finished). We all go down for the holiday weekend, and I start opening up the camper. I drop the bunks, get the electric plugged in and step in the door to deploy the slide. I hit the 'slide out' button, and get no movement, but get the clank-clank-clank of the ratchet clutch. Damn. Something is stuck. I try a couple of times and get nothing.

So I go outside to take a look, get all the way around the camper and stop in my tracks. Then, and only then did I notice that the slide was already out. We were down the weekend before to work on the cabin, and I ran the slide out so we could eat lunch in the A/C at the dinette. I must have totally forgotten to run the slide back in when I locked up.

Ok, so I can believe that I forgot to run the slide in the week before. But I'm shocked that I not only didn't notice it was out when I opened the door, nor did I notice when I was getting the clank out of the ratchet clutch, but I didn't even notice the slide being out when I hooked up the electric!

I'm in serious doubt about my mental capacity at this point.

Tim

I left my umbilical unplugged from my TV once in Quartzite,,,,by time we got to Phoenix, there was half of a plug. The rest was worn off dragging down the highway. Cost me $118 at Camper World. DUHHHH....don't feel bad. We're ALL highly intelligent people,,,,simple because we know the GOOD LIFE of RV'ing.....We just have momentary slips,,,,,,does all this sound credible????

I don't see any long term problems from this unless the cabin you are constructing has slides.

We've been out on 6 trips since getting our new RV in April. Changed out batteries, filled propane tanks, went over it with a fine tooth comb. Few weeks ago get to camp ground and power hitch wouldn't work. Playing with the inline fuse and noticed something red. Was the switch for the battery disconnect I never noticed I had.

Tim, if it makes you feel any better (gives you someone else to laugh at), I somehow locked my keys in my trailer Monday while I was tearing down to go back home. I had to drive 80 miles round trip to get my spare set from the house...which I couldn't find when I got there.

I did find them eventually, as they were in the console of my truck the whole time, where I had put them the last time I went camping before this trip.

Now, I had to make another 80 mile trip back.

So whatever you got, it's contagious.

Had similar experience last weekend. Got to Jellystone Campground near Gatlinburg (Great Family CG) and DW locked up keys in camper. After realizing the spare set was at home, trying to figure out how to break in and trying borrowed keys, called a locksmith. It took him about 3 seconds to pick the lock. We were so glad to get in and enjoyed the rest of the weekend with family. That is what it is all about. Forgetful YES but a happy camper.

This and other stories like this make me doubly glad we have the spare set secured in the compartment with the combi-lock. Now, if I get to the point where I forget the combination, then just shoot me please.

My wife once locked my keys in the trailer while hers were in her purse which was also in the trailer. Thankfully with a hybrid it was just a matter of undoing one of the tents and crawling in through the bunk although somewhat embarrassing doing it in front of a campground full of people.

Welcome to the club.

I'm so glad that we are not the only ones who have the DUH moments. I didn't want to say Senior Moments, but what the heck we are senior and welcome to all the perks that come with that.

One of my main complaints about RV construction is the "What were they thinking" on the placement of switches, etc. My slide switch is on the right side of the door on the side of the sink cabinet & the awning switch is right across on the other side. Perfect height for a 1-4 yr. old to play with & love to push. One of my granddaughters kept pushing the slide button with it out. When we went to put it back in it didn't want to move. Found if we gave it a little push it would retract properly. Now it is a frequent thing to do when retracting. Think she may have messed up the clutch a little. Hope yours is OK.

AAAAWWWW Crap!

Don't feel bad.
Went to Branson, MO with the wife.
Got a motorcycle carrier and figured out how to secure my Honda Helix scooter on it and down the road we went. Checked at every stop to make sure everything was OK. Get to the campground in Branson and offload the bike. Push it to the side, got the rig set up then looked for the keys.
Looked and looked...
Then I remembered, I was headed BACK into the house to get my keys and reaching for them when wife-san demanded my presence for some task that just could not wait. Went and attended to the task and promptly forgot the keys until we needed them. So, instead of riding the bike round Branson we drove the 31 foot Sunseeker... What a PITA that was.
Lesson learned - spare keys made and stashed.
