Condensation

Ok, a little background first. We have been five days in Glacier Park at Saint Mary Montana. In five days it has been 45 and raining for the most part. So the Roo and the canvas are completely saturated. The problem is the last two days we have been dealing with condensation on the bunks. So bad that if we leave it alone it will start to drip on the beds from the inside. I know that it’s because we are keeping the trailer warm while it is cold and rainy outside, but how do we fight this?

Do we run fans inside the trailer? Turn the roof fans on? Lower the temp inside the trailer?

Do your thing and help a Roo brother out.

1. Are you using Popup Gizmos and Reflectix or the generic solar blankets?
2. Do you have the trailer closed up tight as a submarine?

If you don't have #1 and you did #2, NO wonder you have condensation.

PUGs are #1 hybrid mod and will help with condensation, along with helping with temp control.
You also HAVE to allow for air movement. Most of us turn on the bathroom fan and crack open a Tent end window flap, so air can move.

We leave both roof fans open but not turned on and have never had any condensation issues since. And we don't have PUGS.

PUGS are the way to go. Spend the extra money and buy the super high wind version. The first night through a storm and you will be glad you did. We went through a doozy last week in Illinois and we're glad we had them.

We don't run the fans when it's cold. You are trying to heat your trailer. Makes no sense to run the fans and send all that precious warm air outside.

Have fun!

Thanks everyone. We have left Glacier and apparently the rain is following us. Rained all the way to Hardin, MT and rained the entire time since we have been here.

I will be getting the PUGs when we get home and be using the cheap space blankets under the mattresses. I also have reflectix to make the windows. Thanks for all the help. Knew I could count on you guys!

You didn't say whether you had the trailer closed up tight, without allowing for air movement.

Glacier NP doesn't have any electric hookups, so it wouldn't have helped.

I did have it closed up. Rookie mistake, that’s why I asked for some experienced help. In Texas we don’t deal with cold, just hot. I know the mechanics of hot weather, but not cold.

Your experiences will help other new hybrid owners.

That's why we encourage newbies to get PUGs and Reflectix.

But when you close up any hybrid tight, with humans inside exhaling moist air and the furnace running, condensation will always occur.

Just to be clear, in case someone takes your statement incorrectly: The furnace warms the air and thus makes it easier for the moisture you're breathing out to condense on the cold tents (larger temperature difference).

The furnace does NOT, repeat NOT, create any moisture.

Furnaces creating moisture is an URBAN LEGEND. Yes, burning propane creates water vapor, but if it is coming inside your TT, rather than being exhausted, it means you have a cracked heat exchanger, which is a very DANGEROUS condition, as it also mean carbon monoxide is also coming into your TT.

Thanks for the info. I jumped on here to find this answer. We have condensation. This is our 4th trip this season and it's rained every time! It's in the 50's but we haven't turned on the heat yet. I just wiped it dry and turned on the bunk fan. Guess I'll go crack a window. [emoji16]
