Considering a Roo 24WS - Can you keep the back "bedroom" cool?

Hi folks,

My family and I are considering a new Roo 24WS. We currently own a 2005 Fleetwood Valor/SunValley Popup and are familiar with the PUGs and Reflectix as we always use the PUGs (heat and pine sap) and the reflectix occasionally. We plan on at least a new set of PUGs for the new camper.

We love the 24WS floor plan as it works for us both turtled and opened. It's huge. Our TV is a 2015 Yukon XL (5.3 with max tow) so we are within the tow ratings, even loaded.

My question is with regard to the rear bunk. I see that there is one vent in the back hallway. Can the AC keep the rear bunk cool in warm weather? We are planning on the 15K AC.

We are in NC and many of our trips are to the NC coast, the SC coast and Florida, all of which are hot and humid.

We have a Roo 19. Our 13,500 BTU is located in the middle of the unit. Our rear bunk also is half block by the bathroom just like the 24wsw.We were down in Fl this summer and our AC kept both bunks cool, but we did leave the curtains open for good air flow

We have the 23ws which is your floor plan but with the kitchen and dinette flipped. We don't even have the air ducted to the back hallway. We took down the hallway door and hung a curtain, it is usually left open to allow air flow to the back (that door just made it feel to close with the bathroom door right there anyway). This along with PUGs and the bunk fans is usually sufficient. We don't usually need reflectix (we have it, just don't have to use it often). In extreme heat, we can set up a box fan in front of the fridge on the floor to send air that direction but it can get in the way.
We are in Maryland, so can get some hot and steamy conditions.

We have a 23 ws with the duct back to the bedroom, it seems to be the coolest place in the camper when we run the a/c. We have camped in 95 degree HIGH humidity PA weather this summer, the camper was really cool and comfy, although it was parked in the shade, the a/c ran 3 days solid, it was too hot to go outside. We had a great trip, shopping, relaxing, playing games and watching tv.

We have a 24ws and we’ve not had any huge issues with heat in the back bunk being any worse than the front. I think leaving the door open would negate any heat issues you’d have back there.

My 13.5 AC with 3 bunks on my 183 (no slides) keeps the camper cool... I do run a box fan to keep the air from stratifying...

We're disappointed in the 23WS and 24WS due to the arrangement of the dinette and sofa on the same side of the cabin and much prefer the olde 23SS version with the galley and sofa on the slide and the dinette on the opposite side of the cabin. Bumping the wardrobe out adds a very nice asileway the the rear bunk, though.

We long ago gave up any idea of privacy in a camper so the door on the 24WS is not a feature in our use and would probably be deleted if we ever got one. With no door (or at least it open) heading and cooling the back bed would be easier.

There's a single AC outlet back there in our 23SS -- how many in the 24WS? Only two (2) furnace outs in our entire trailer and they both blow toward the beds.

Single AC duct outlet in the back hallway and two furnace outlets pointed at the bed.

Just to note this: we have the upgraded 15k AC unit on our 24Ws and it keeps the trailer fine in Midwest heat which thus summer was in the high humidity 80s and 90s.

Chuck_S, I understand what you mean about the positioning of the sofa right next to the dinette. I too would prefer them opposite for conversation, etc. It was a discussion point on the 24WS and 21SS making us lean towards the 233S for a time. However, we don't need the extra bed, so the counterspace and storage sold us on the 24WS.

The circa 2006 model year 23SS with the booth, not U-, dinette remains our favorite floor plan. The "WS" models are frustratingly close but we'd get and adapt to the 24WS if a tornado carried our 23SS off to Kansas. Would make some minor changes if possible such as eliminating the extra door or at least fitting paneled doors rather than the tacky slab types.

2018 RW Roo 24WS with 15K ducted AC. Yes allot cooler. Leaving all curtains or door open, we use the DC fan and clip it over onto one of the nylon we straps so that it pulls cool air out of the hallway and keeps the air circulating in the rear bunk.
Both bunks have the high wind Gizmos reflective materials as well as we custom cut Reflectix to put int all the bunk sides and ends and zip up. Just remove them and lay flat on bed when breaking down. It makes all the difference in your temperatures. On those days when you are camping and don't have shade, the side awning certainly helps. But between noon and about 4pm the tent ends could get up to 87 degrees during the hottest part of the day with air on. For some like me anything over 76 degrees is warm.

We use a floor fan to help push air to the bunks. It’s used outside on warm days. We spend two weeks each year on Hatteras Island, for us, the 15k BTU has a hard time keeping up.

It doesn't appear to be common knowledge yet but at the Hershey show they had the new 235S on display, very nice hybrid with an outside kitchen.

I keep one of these in my 23ikss. Works great for moving air to the back, drying anything out that may get wet or even using it out side to cool off.

You might need to hook up the noisy DC fan/light that comes with the Roo to pull the air coming from the vent and circulate it into the bunk.
We use something to hang the fan over toward the entrance of the bunk nearer the vent.

We love that you can get to and use the bathroom and kitchen at anytime without the slide out. Some units are unusable unless slides are out. We like that anytime we can pull over, fix lunch, relax, use our own bathroom, then get back on the road.

In a pinch we have pulled over, unfolded the sofa bed, which goes all the way to cabinets, if slide not out. Or extend the slide and have plenty of room.

You are starting to make me jealous. We were dead set on the 24WS until we found the 23BDS, which we are picking up next week. The 24WS is such an open airy unit. Love it!
