Pretty brilliant mod for how simple it is...appreciate it.

when using the PVC mod. Is the the PVC attached to the bunk frame by bolts/screws? Trying to see if you have to unbolt/unscrew to release the bunk door.

No, it just slides in over the seal opening from the side. The screws that hold the bunk end frame to the body keep the pvc from slipping off the edges. The only way to remove it is to slide it to the side straight out. If looking at the side, it cannot "turn" off of the edge. They are a bit of a pain to store when camping, but they do stay seem to stay in place when traveling. Others are doing the same thing with a slit garden hose, that way they are easier to store while camping. It does help to have a ladder or step stool to remove or install them.

Thanks for all the info on closing bunks with vent fans and also adding the PVC across the top of the bunk. Looks like I'll be trying a few new things in spring! Never had a leak, but better safe then sorry!

Question for the PVC'ers: What did you use to cut the slot in the PVC? How did you keep it a straight cut?

I snapped a couple of chalk lines along the entire length of pipe, then used a sharp marker to make dots every 1/2 inch or so over the chalk to keep the cut straight. I then used a cut off jig saw blade to make the cuts. Used about half of the blade so it wouldn't try to cut thru the other side. I did have some clean up to do with a rasp but wasn't difficult.

Dado39 was considering using a table saw run slow enough not to melt the pipe, unsure if he has done so yet. That may work better. I did have some clean up to do with a rasp but wasn't difficult.

Thanks for the pictures and description of the PVC mod. I did not clearly understand it before as I imagined something that is permanently attached and still allows lowering the bunk end.

Our new 2014 233S experienced bunk end leaking immediately on pickup. We did not notice it during the PPI as it was raining very hard that day and we did not lower the bunk ends. We found the leak as soon as we got the unit home and lowered the bunk end.

Upon lowering the bunk end and performing water tests, we think the leakage was caused by Dycor roof caulking on the top gasket. We expect this was slopped down on the gasket during assembly. No more leaking since cleaning it up.

Bought a cover for winter storage though. Will probably add the PVC pieces when storing in the future.

Our previous Hybrid was a Jayco Jay Feather 23B. It had flush mounted closing latches that used a square socket key, and the gaskets were inset within the trailer body. We had no leakage at the bunk ends, although the roof eventually failed (different story). I think Jayco have since changed their latches now to externally mounted ones that allow locking the bunk ends.

Our Jayco bunk ends fit WAY tighter than the Roo gaskets, which are purposely a pretty light fit on a very pliable gasket. One issue with the older Jayco design was it was extremely easy to catch the canvas with the mechanism.

Yup, I think that would do it. Not sure how that got through quality control, it seems pretty obvious.

Rain guard installed

Just got done installing a "rain guard" over the top seam of the front bunk end of my Roo. Used a piece of 1-1/4" (1"ID) clear flexible tubing cut to 7'-4" and slit down the middle. It slipped right over the flanges on the bunk door and camper with little effort.

That sounds better than PVC. You can roll it up when you take it off.

Wait, are you guys suggesting there's still an issue now that FR has gone to the attached tents? sponge is buying a new 2015 model with them? I'm curious as we had a 2008, and we had initial leakage with the original internal bulb seal without the fingers. After replacement with the fingered bulb internal seal, and then the external pinch mold with bulb seal, we never had issue again. We weathered a number of serious storms stored and while in tow (including 8 hours dragging through torrential rains) and stayed bone dry!

In my unscientific research it doesn't seem any more or less likely to leak in new models. There are plenty of new owners who have reported issues.

I could be wrong.

I think that the PVC rain guard looks very clean & neat. I just wasn't feelin' the two cuts and the filing to get it to fit properly. I saw a post where someone suggested the use of garden hose slit and placed over the flanges. My OPINION was that the hose may too small in diameter. I had not noticed any leaks around the seal, but with all the conversation on FRF about the potential of a leak, i thought "an ounce of prevention...".

Be sure and let us know if it stays in place while traveling, no reason why it wouldn't, nice to be able to roll it up while camping.

Also, you can get larger diameters of hose than the garden variety hose (5/8" or 3/4" usually).

Here's 1-1/4", 1-1/2" and 2", although it's a bit expensive:

Watts 2 in. x 25 ft. PVC Spa Flex Hose-RSFV - The Home Depot
