Door seals on Bunk Beds Rockwood Roo

Hi Everyone,

I am new to this forum website, I am trying to search out information on restoration after water damage. Damage that was caused due to leaking seals around the bunk beds on the 2009 Rockwood Roo travel trailer. Has anyone else had severe leaks due to the doors/beds?

The water got in and soaked the mattresses, and rotted all the wood cabinets that were just below each bunk bed as it sat wet and damp for months until I arrived there to open it up for the spring.

first, welcome to the forum.
second, the Roo is a Hybrid, not a regular TT. there is a section here specifically for Expandables/Hybrids and their issues. there's even a Roo sub-section.
your questions should be posted there, since they are unique to hybrids.

this is not uncommon for new owners, especially if they aren't familiar with hybrids. often, some canvas or bungees are caught in the seals when closing up the bunk ends.
the 2009's should have had the improved seals, so it's hard to believe that they are bad already.
some get leakage into the bunk end, from poorly caulked clearance lights above the bunk door.
a number of owners of used ones have replaced the wood platform, next to the hinge.

did you buy the Roo new or used?

Hello and thank you for your response. I will check out the section regarding hybrid travel trailers. It is a 2009 so only a few years old and we bought it brand new from a RV Dealer lot, and due to the damage sustained internally from a leak over the winter I am shocked that it is so new because right now my trailer smells and looks ruined. The wood below the back to bunks (those cabinets and wood paneling that cover the furnace ducting" is completing rotten and falling apart and the entire trailer where ever there is wood absorbed the wetness and now has black dry rot. I even had parts of the press board kitchen counter falling off. There was no bungees or cords caught, it looks like it started from the black seals at the top and ran right into the mattress and soaked that until it could not hold any more water and then the water traveled.

i would seriously have a discussion with your dealer. with a good dealer behind you, they can work something out with FR, even if the warranty has expired.

with the kitchen counter having damage, i suspect more than just the bunk seals, but possible roof leakage.

dealer/manufacturer

I have documented everything with pictures to show the standing water and then the damage done after I cleaned up the water. The dealer is in touch with Forest River rep to see what the next step is since it is just 2 years old. I am getting the impression that hybrids are having more problems with leaks compared to a regular travel trailer.

I posted a picture of the outside and a picture of what it looked like at the bunk when I opened the trailer door. Every cupboard in the trailer had green mold on it, press board and all wood was damp due to the standing water there.
