Driving with full water tank?

I'm going in a hunting trip in a couple of weeks and we have to drive 80 KMs on a dirt road. There could be sections where the road isnt the greatest. I'm just wondering if I should fill up my water tank and hot water tank before leaving or just bring a few jugs of water and pour them in once we get there.

There's been more then a few threads here that make me think the water tank supports are questionable. Just do a search on tank supports and you'll find them... Since you'll be traveling a long distance on rough roads, I'd be a little concerned about the extra water weight in the tank getting bounced around... If this is going to be a frequent trip for you, you might want to consider reinforcing your tank supports like others have..

Yep ! as #2 said. Check to see what kind of supports are under...or not under the FW tank. I had metal straps under mine and tore one off just crawling around underneath the TT. Now has two pieces of angle iron running under the tank.

I would probably go on with about a 1/3 of a tank of water, grey and black empty. Carry some extra, "just in case." You don't want to get back n the boonies then put your water system in service.

Sigh.... These tank support threads just keep going on and on. I looked at brand new models this week and nothing has changed, light gauge sheet metal straps secured by one little screw on each end. You would think the industry would hear our stories and correct this defect.

Depends on where your water tank is located.

The tank in my Roo 23SS is located inside the trailer, on top of the floor, not dangling underneath so I'd not hesitate to fill it and the water heater for any drive. TMMV.

We boondock all the time in the desert and not towing full would be a deal breaker for us. Last trailer was toy hauler with 150 gallons FW, always full.

Check and see how well your tank is supported . If it needs help , most times it just involves a couple of steel straps cut to correct length and bolted in .. I would always have water in my water heater for fear of turning it on accidentally and burning it up . We do not winterize were I live .

You probably have a 13 year old luan-and-foam floor. With all the soft floor threads here, it might not be much better than the underslung supports. I'd still be careful!

Also note that the tank location may be like mine, located at the very rear in front of the rear bumper. This means that you are putting in my case, 415 lbs of water at the back side of the "see-saw" and lifting a large portion of tongue weight.

Yes, the FW tank is inside, on the floor ,under the couch
