Factory trailer hitch on 2020 Roo?

Does anyone know the part number and manufacturer for the factory rear trailer hitch they are putting on the 2020 Roo's?

Thanks

Didn't know they were offering a factory rear receiver on the Roo/Shamrock hybrids.
By the way, a hitch is what goes into the receiver.

I had one welded under the bumper of my '08 Roo 23SS.... BUT, I also had a reinforcement piece welded across from one frame rail to the other and the receiver welded to that also. Inserted a platform in the receiver for firewood, cooler, etc.

That was a great video that guy did going through everything. I really like the bumper receiver option, the tire pressure monitoring system, the stairs, and the larger fridge. One thing I noticed verses my early year 2019 is they removed the cabinets above the dinette and put a larger window in. Window is nice but the storage in my opinion is better. It would be nice if they had a retrofit kit to add the hitch to the back.

I would suggest that the first step would be to look at your paperwork, including the "window" sticker, usually on the inside of a cabinet door nearest the entry door. I haven't been a big fan of hitch receivers on trailers, but they could serve a purpose in allowing a bike rack or scooter rack. While it may be permissible to actually tow something with that setup, I personally would be very wary. My last fiver had a slide out "porch" to haul bikes on, but it was pretty substantial, and even had rollers to make it easier to pull/push in or out. In my case, I mounted a purpose-built generator and marine gas tank on it, then drilled new holes to fix it in place, as I didn't pull it but maybe half to 2/3 of the way out. Has zero problems in 10 years. Also moved the spare tire to the front storage bin.

Now, we have a Sunseeker, which also came with a receiver, and we tow a 4x8 utility trailer with our golf cart on it. Hitch weight is about 125#.

I'm interested to find out the specs on this 2" receiver. What sort of weight does it support? What type of rack is approved or recommended. Towing isn't really something you do with a trailer unless the states you pass through allow it. But in the Haylett RV video he does say bike racks, generator, etc.

I expect there will be a lot more reports of poor handling when towing hybrids with a factory receiver. Whacking on extra weight back there will easily throw off the distribution. No doubt there will be all kinds of limitations and disclaimers included, just as there is no doubt overloading will occur.

I had a beefed up receiver welded to my hybrid (2012 Roo 19) and carried two bikes. I had no poor handling issues.

Have the same on my Mini Lite. No handling issues.

Must be a very recent change. My 2020 that was manufactured in April doesn't have it. Would like it for a couple bikes if all handles well. Like the griddle they are offering now too instead of grill.

In a private email, a Forest River rep provided the following information:

"... We are now offering a 2” accessory receiver hitch as a standard feature. The hitch has a 300 lb capacity and is not to be used for towing. "

Unrelated to this topic, he confirmed that a TPMS is standard. It's a TST brand but I didn't get the model. In videos it looks like a 507 series 2 monochrome screen with 4 caps.

Also, the optional RVQ grill has been replaced by a griddle.

Edit: further information about the TPMS:

"... The sensors go around the actual wheel – they are not on the valve stem. This is so they cannot be easily stolen while on the dealer lot. ..."

Pretty typical of the mid-year changes that occur in the RV Industry.

I reached out to Haylett RV to find out more of this, since Forest River as usual doesn't list many details.
Here is the response:

Hi Raymond,
My name is Scott McKinney from Haylett Auto & RV.
I recently received your request about the receiver on a Rockwood.
The specified weight for the receiver is 300lbs.
It is not designed, nor intended to be used for towing.
In Michigan, and most other states, the law states that the primary connection to the tow vehicle must be a fifth wheel.
What other questions may I answer for you?
Regards,

Scott McKinney

So this sounds like it will work for receiver mounted bicycle racks, maybe a rack to hold your Tote, maybe medium ice chest. I still wouldn't trust a receiver mounted rack holding a generator on a Roo frame, but that's my decision.

I would agree with regard to a larger generator but how much different would a 50# Honda EU2000i (or similar) generator be from a family's worth of bicycles? From what I've found when searching, generator racks are in the 30-35# range. Combined with the generator they're less than 1/3 of the hitch rating?
