I love the fireplace! Where did you find the insert to fit in that space? We have the same camper and would love to do this. Especially for heating the front bunk area.

When Mikewcrook posted his, he listed the model as a 18ef023gra. The '18' is the key because that's the biggest model that will fit in that space. The '023' is the model with the blue highlites in the flame. They have discontinued this model. I did find one in a pawn shop on line in MT! Of course, I live in NC. But I checked at a local pawn shop, and they had one in a cabinet!! Here's a few pictures I posted in another thread.Click image for larger version

Yes I got mine off of amazon 2 years ago but I don't think they carry it anymore. Do a Google search for the model number. Might get lucky.

Nccamper and Mikewcrook I also just finished installing my fireplace insert last night! I still have trimming out left to do, and to find a proper grille cover to go over the top of the insert, along with the 3 inch plugs for the hole I now have from where I moved the battery disconnect switch. Just curious Nccamper, where did you find yours at? the 3 inch plugs?

Also, for those that are interested, I was able to purchase a 18" Spectra Fire Insert from Menards for under $150.00 new!! Below is the link to it. I have also included a pic that I took late last night. Sorry about how dark it turned out. I'll fix it today hopefully! I just wanted to update those that there is in fact a newer version that does work and it fits perfect! It has 5 different light settings as well as brightness and flame speed adjustments.

I was also very impressed with just how much heat this thing puts out. I live in Iowa, and it was 34 degrees inside the trailer when I started. I had it running for about 30 minutes once I installed it, and when I looked up and I saw it was almost 65 degrees inside the camper, I couldn't believe it!

Looks good, D_TWEEZY!! I used 3" aluminum soffit vents from Lowe's. They came in a five pack, so I put one on each side ( why not?) Painted them satin black, along with the 16" soffit vent I used in front and all of the screws heads. I took one of the pieces that I cut to fit the fireplace in the opening and trimmed it down to make a cross member for the bottom of the 16" vent and the top of the trim molding to attached to. I used rubber cement on the trim molding just in case I ever have remove the insert to access the slide out controller. Post more pic when you finish!

Perfect! Fantastic job D_TWEEZY! I did the same as Nccamper and used a soffit vent to cover the top gap. Great Mod!

Here's an updated photo with the almost finished product. I just have to paint the screws tomorrow. Tomorrow's agenda, shelving in the closets and in the kitchen!

Thank you!! It really did turn out great. Big thank you to Mikewcrook for helping out. It was super easy to do if you are even somewhat handy. I used a drill and jigsaw. Big part is just measuring everything out how you want it to end up.

Fireplace in my 23ikss

Because of Mikewcrook, people in the future buying a used 23ikss will think the fireplace was a factory option!! Thanks again Mike. D_TWEEZY--you're right about the measuring, but sorting all of those wires and securing them against the wall (and measuring for clearance) took me longer than anything. I like you idea about a drawer by the front bunk (next on the list??). Now if can just figure out how to reach those wires on the Genesis to fix the speakers!!

No worries. Glad everyone can enjoy it. My wife actually saw this mod done in a 5th wheel so told me she wanted it. And this was the result!

Really enjoying the pictures of the fireplace mod. Just wondering if anyone with a 21SS like me has thought about adding one to the panel over the water filter. being under the front bed, its not as ideal of a location as under the entertainment center, but it is unused space. I measured and I think an 18" one will fit. Just need to lose an outlet, but the good news is the outlet can then be used to plug the fireplace into.

this is awesome. I am guessing it is electric, and is wired into the main wiring of the camper? I have no clue how to do this, but hubby might. How do you turn it on and off, and regulate temperature?

I also think there should be a drawer in the cabinet near the front bunk in our 2014 ikss. Why just leave dead space there?

It is electric, I just plugged it in the same receptacle as the TV. It comes with a remote to access most of the settings (on/off, flame size and heat on/off). Temp. and heat without flame has to me set with the the buttons on the unit.
Yes a drawer would be nice in that front cabinet.
