Fires?

Well after seeing this the other day kinda makes you think. It was being towed down the road. It caught fire due to one of the landing gear motors shorting out. We stopped and talked the the guy later on. This was only on fire less than 10 minutes. After seeing this I have gone over fire escape drills with the kids and wife. I don't know if I'll ever go to a regular full shell camper I like the easy access of of hybrid to get out in case of an emergency..

There's another thread going on currently where all the wires were connected to the same terminal of the main battery circuit breaker ('short-stop') and when a slide switch shorted it smoked a bunch of wiring and almost set the trailer on fire. Maybe same thing here?

If it was being towed, and a landing gear motor started the fire, how the heck did they get the landing gear down and the TV out from under it so fast? Or did the TV suffer damage also and was just unhitched after the fact?

In any case, that's an RVer's nightmare-on-four-wheels. Glad no one was injured.

Making sure that the family knows how to get out is very important. We have a 9 year old son and he sleeps in one end of our Hybrid. I like the fact that on our Surveyor (not sure if it is the same for all Hybrids) there is also a zipper on the screen part at the ends.

I have told my wife and son that we always keep the zippers so they met in the middle. That way if someone has to get out fast they know to go right to the middle of the screen at the top and unzip. Then they don't have to search for the zipper ends. I'm sure I could crash right through the zipper if need be, but maybe not so for my wife or son.

James.

If you ever get the chance to attend a "Mac the fire guy" seminar do it. He is a expert on RV fires and escape plans. We attended two of his and practiced going out the escape windows(not easy and practice is a must) and also putting out real fires. So much great info.

I believe the tow vehicle did not sustain any damage they crawled in the bed and pulled the pin and took off and let it slam down it was a 3500hd silverado with no tailgate

Actually looking in the picture the passenger side landing gear is still up which was where the fire started and the driver side is down

X2 That was the same thought I had as I read this because this circuit should be protected by either a fuse or circuit breaker.
I always thought it odd that the fire extinguisher is at the exit door, if I got to there during a fire in an RV I'm gone as long as everyone else is out too.
