Fix for Broken Steps

Last camping trip, as I was coming down the camper steps, one of the rivets sheared off, almost making me fall down. A quick fix was obtained by inserting a #2 Phillips screw driver in the hole where the rivet went.Once home, a permanent fixed was made with the following items purchased at HomeDepot:

Clevis pin, ¼” dia X ½” long
Everbilt 1/4 in. x 3/4 in. Stainless Universal Clevis Pin-70468 - The Home Depot

Cotter Pin, 3/32” X ¾” long
Crown Bolt 3/32 in. x 3/4 in. Stainless Cotter Pin (3-Pack)-47688 - The Home Depot

¼” flat washer
Everbilt 1/4 in. Stainless-Steel Flat Washer (6-Pack)-800341 - The Home Depot

I now keep spares of these items in a small plastic jar in the camper.

I also found several other rivets that will soon fail.

Best to drill all the rivets out and drill a 21/64" dia hole and install a 5/16" gr 8 bolt and nyloc nut before another one breaks and someone gets hurt.
