Fixing privacy curtains

My kids have a habit of pulling down on the privacy curtains on the bunk ends instead of sliding them across. They end up doing this:



I guess I could just use larger screws but the same may happen again. Anyone gave the same problem? If so, how did you fix it?

This is a goofy idea, but could you install a pull down shade? Do they really need the curtain? A well place pillow should have the same effect. What about Velcro? They could customize their "look"
