As pointed out, it's a simple docking light with a switch located on the bezel. Exposure to road grime, etc. causes corrosion in the switch and the bulb contacts. Clean and apply dielectric grease. The bulb is an 1156.

Since different switches were mentioned, which one was it?

Sorry, it was a light mounted switch on the bottom of the light housing. Easy to find if you just feel across the bottom of the housing.

Yours should have a rocker switch. My switch went bad after two years and I have to slowly roll it to find that "just right" position to get it to work.

If you look inside, you may find some rust on the contacts.

If you still run into issues, the lights are fairly inexpensive. I think this is the correct one.

We must be getting cabin fever. Three pages of a thread on the light switch on the bottom of the front light.
