Fuel economy numbers with my GL

So I had a chance to pull the 21RS (same as a 23RS ROO) for the first time, was only like a 50km or so drive with some stop and go and some 100-110kmh runs.

Anyway I got about 17 l/100 or 14MPG, is this ok? I have only ever towed my car trailer and my pop up with the truck and never an SUV.

I am pulling with a 2008 GL320 with 175km on it, yep that's a pile and it runs great. The GL is awesome so far, if your looking for a 7 passenger SUV that gets close to 30MPG on the highway and over 20 mixed check one out.

You're doing way better than me! I am towing a 21SS with a 5.7 Hemi and I only get about 10mpg.

I only get about 10-11 with my Tundra pulling 233S. So your numbers sound really good.

Better than I get pulling my Roo 21RS with my 5.3l Sierra. I average over 20l/100kms.

I'll be interested to hear your average when you throw some wind & mountains at it. If you can keep it close, you're in great shape!

Got 10 mpg with Chevy 5.3 l under similar circumstances the first time I towed our 30 wrls v lite, can't wait to see what it says on the open Highway. Anything above 10 mpg I think would be great.

I was getting between 17-22 l/100km with the Ecoboost last year depending on the terrain and how much stuff we had with us. Tried packing everything a little differenrt this year so hoping we are closer to the 17

don't know anything about GL's but i have a hard time believing 14mpg with a gas engine.
maybe if it has a diesel engine.

how did you calculate this? This going by your information center and did you reset it before you started towing? If not, these numbers aren't accurate. Very hard to believe by anyone who has towed with a gas engine.

Bikendan, the Mercedes-Benz GL320 SUV has a diesel CDI engine which is why it has a relatively high tow rating for its size. It also has a decent payload rating.

having a diesel does not increase towing capacity or payload. It only increases MPG

A diesel engine provides more torque thus improving towing ability. I did not say it had anything to do with payload, just that that particular vehicle has a decent payload rating.

Sorry to thread jack, but what exactly is dk and dw?
I looked around for a sticky or something to help me with all the abbreviations and didn't see much. Seems like almost every time I join a new forum, I have to learn a new language.

On topic, towing the camper I average 12mpg and towing a car I average just under 14mpg. Evidently wind resistance is the biggest killer of fuel economy.

Search for a thread called "Acronyms". There may be others, too.

That mileage is not bad, With my Kia Sedona towing a Vibe 6501 I could get 17 L/100km on the flat with little/tail wind. Soon as there was any head wind or hills it would go up to 19 - 20 l/100km. I am hoping with the RAM I will get 19 -20l/100 towing.

Sorry guys had to go to Kelowna for some family stuff.
Yes the GL has the 3.0 V6 diesel 215/400, this is my daily driver and tow vehicle now. The first trailer run was based on the computer yes, I will hand calc the first trip out. A friend of mine has an 08 GL and a new Ecoboost and the GL still gets better mileage pulling the same 30 foot TT.
These cars don't get nearly enough praise, I will take this over a full size GM all day long and the last row folds into the floor and I still have a spare under the floor. The trip computer said I got 8.2 l/100 driving Calgary to Kelowna. Drove to Kelowna then drove around Kelowna for 2 1/2 days then back to Golden, hand calc I got 8.2 l/100 when I got to Golden. I know it will go 1300km at least on a tank, the book lists the tank as 100L but I have put 106L in and I put 96L in and I still had 1/8 of a tank.
Anyway getting awesome economy in a large 7 passenger AWD SUV rules!

well, the 14mpg is more believable, since it's a diesel.

no way you could average that with a gas-engined vehicle towing a full height TT.
