Gas oven

Was thinking of actually using the gas oven in my 23IKSS this weekend and couldn't remember from my pdi if I needed to light the pilot in the oven or is it ready to go? I know the furnace doesn't need the pilot light lit as it automatically comes on with the thermostat at the right setting. I just wanted to make sure before I blew something up. Has anyone baked cookies in there gas oven?

On most ovens you need to light the pilot light in the oven. After lighting let this warm up a little before engaging the oven temperature setting. This will insure that the pilot light will not go out when you want the oven to heat up. At least this is what we have done on our Suburban Oven.

I would also invest in and oven thermometer to insure that the temperature is correct in the oven.

Yes, you will need to light the pilot light when you are ready to turn on the oven. If you've never used it before, the oven will smoke as the oils from manufacturing burn off, so crank the temp up on the oven and let it run for a half hour or so to get rid of the smell. Open some windows and run the fan over the island to draw out the smoke.
As for cooking with the oven, we've had great luck with ours. We've baked brownies, cinnamon rolls, pizza, and corn bread and all came out great. The key is putting something on top of the metal shelf under the rack to distribute and even out the heat. We use a pizza stone and some other folks use tiles. There are some good threads on here with all the details but whichever you choose, you'll get better results.
