Gas strut for door

Our Shamrock 183 came with a strut at the bottom of the door to hold it open. It quit working so I goes to Tom Johnson to see about getting me one. They don't stock it at all and said if they have a tech that needs one they just send out to NAPA. I went to NAPA and they can get me one but I'm kinda concerned cause the one that was on it was 15# of force and the smallest NAPA can get is 20#. Length and all is the same. Do y'all reckon that extra 5# of force is anything to worry over?

No...see if it has an adjustment screw on the end and loosen it up a bit . If not , should still be ok

Ok thanks. It seemed weird that the dealer wouldn't have it but all they had were like 50-100# to hold up pickup bed covers etc.

if you bought the 2nd year factory warranty, for $150, FR should be able to send you a new one. a 2014 should still be covered.

unless you bought it used.

Them fellers at Tom Johnson never mentioned a year 2 warranty so I'm out of luck there. When I first started my quest for one of these I asked if it was covered and could I take it off and bring it to them. No you gotta bring the whole trailer. Wasn't worth taking it over and leaving it for lord knows how long. I just didn't realize it would be so hard to find. They are no trouble at all to change out though. 2 clips and 5 minutes you done.

I bought one at Camping World when I needed a replacement. they had a bunch of sizes and shapes. I actually tried a higher # for a while, but went back to the stock 20# for my MH door.

Got the 20# one from NAPA today and it doesn't feel a lot different than the original so I believe we gonna be able to leave the door open with the screen door closed now😀
