Interesting about the parachute effect. I wonder if that would be the same only 2 feet back of non-storage models.

I actually wished I would have waited to buy the 21BD if I knew it was coming. I was debating btwn the 21SS and the 23SS, then they came out with the 23IKSS. I couldn't wait anymore and went with the 23IKSS because of the two full slideouts. Tons of room and storage. The 21BD is very enticing with the storage space behind the tongue and counter space the 21SS doesn't have. I also like the rear door location and the outside fridge.

We have the dk, and I have to say I would prefer the dk. From looking at pictures of the bd, it seems like you lose a lot of inside storage and I don't like having a half wall covering the front bunk. I like the front being open to sit and relax and not feel totally cut off from the rest of the trailer. We have turtled in our dk and didn't really find an issue with the front bunk hanging over a bit. My issue was trying to fit 2 little doggies on the dinette bed with me and the DH!! The only thing on the bd that I have to say that would be nice is the more floor space it offers because of the dinette in the slide. It just comes down to what you prefer. Good luck with your decision!!!

NicelyRoo your post could not have been more appropriate. In the final hours we have decided to get the DK and it was almost entirely for the same reasons you pointed out. I certainly like the tv placement better in the BD and of course a bigger slide is very attractive as it is free extra floor space! I went back and forth a million times but at the end of the day I agree with your point...I really love the open feel that bunk gives you with no wall blocking it. It feels like a much larger camper. I also know from our last camper that I never, ever felt like I had enough flat surfaces to place things. That extra deep counter space was really important to me and the DK has a lot more of it.

Of course I also started thinking about how many camping accessories I could buy with the 1k saved in price!

I really appreciated everyone's feedback. Both floorplans are awesome, as are the other Roo models. I think the DK gets us most of our "wants", with the least length and weight and I feel really good about it. Ordering tomorrow morning!

Enjoy Vader! First thing for that cash is invest in some Progressive Industries electrical system protection! I recommend the EMS-HW50C unit because it works with 30A too and with lifetime warranty it'll travel to your next unit in years to come!

Hey geo, any inline units (non hard-wired) you would recommend or am I simply better off hard wiring?

Hard-wired units give you peace of mind no-one is walking off with it, and they are the only units with hi/low voltage protection which you face more commonly at CGs especially in crowded summer heat (brownouts). $300 once for your camping via camper life is way cheaper than the cost of repairs/replacements!

I have a 21DK and haven't turtled but have worked in the trailer with the front bunk closed. The back of the dining bench is more than enough to keep the front mattress contained. I doesn't intrude in the living space in any way that I'd be annoyed by.

New Shamrock 21BD Owner

Just traded off a ROO 21SS for a Shamrock 21BD.
Was having trouble with the slide out on the ROO.
Purchased the 21BD at a dealer 6 hours from home.
Removed the brackets for my hitch from the ROO and
installed them on the 21BD myself. It took 20 min and
they fit just fine. Unaware, I left the dealer with a full
fresh water tank. I never travel with water in the fresh
water tank. There was no difference towing the 21BD
full of water compared to ROO.

Almost bought a 21DK, but looked at a brochure for a
21BD and ordered it instead. Glad I did. IMO, better
floor plan and now have a good place to haul the bikes.

We are leaving today in our 21BD for its first of many trips. Though the floor plan was ideal, it was the front deck that sealed the deal for us. Can't wait. DH drilled holes on opposite sides of bike rack so we can keep it to the side when not using bikes and access the deck. If you do this make sure it is low enough to clear bed. Everyone be safe this weekend.

It's funny that FR had two front deck hybrid models for a number of years and they never sold well.

Thanks for the bike rack modification idea!

Have been making modifications to our 21BD. Removed the hanger rod
in the closet, added 1/4" plywood on bottom for extra strength (just
set it in and caulked it). Installed three wire shelves from Menards.
Their shelving was the exact depth needed, and end sides of the
closet are very solid. Used two vertical support rod on each end
(also from Menards that are supposed to be used with their shelving).
Drilled through the square support in existing holes and at heights I
wanted the shelves to be. Used longer screws than those supplied
with the support rods and brackets. Must cut the shelving to the
proper length. Used a dye grinder with cutting wheel, but could use
a hack saw or reciprocating saw. Installed the shelves upside down
to provide a lip across the front to help keep things on. The wife is
using this area to store pots, pans, cooking junk, etc.

Installed two sets of BAL stabilizers bars to help stabilize the scissor
jacks. They work great! The key to use this brand of stabilizers
is to cock the support brackets on the frame (vertically or horizontally)
to be in line where the bar is attached to the bottom of the scissor
jacks. I used a vise to bend the angle brackets on the bar ends
that attach to the jacks to perfect angles needed. Have read in
forums of people having to make special angle brackets to make
theirs work. The bending actually bends at the end of the bar and
not the supplied angle itself.

Very cool! I am not sure yet if I want to give up the hanging aspect but this is tempting.

I saved the clothes rod to reinstall if needed later. You can leave one of
the original rod brackets up and remove one and replace with a 1/2 open
bracket, which would make rod installation and removal effortless.

The wire shelving removes easily.
