Help!! Wet-soft floor

So my shamrock had a soft floor up by the front bunk. I decided that it was time to fix it. So I pulled the dinette, sofa, and all the wood working out. Pulled up the linoleum....wasn't quite ready for what I found....I found one place near the bottom corner of the front bunk that had water trails on it. Any ideas where else to investigate? A delightful little challenge is that I'm scheduled to go camping in about twelve days....?Click image for larger version

looks like the water heater has been leaking from the amount of dark wood under it.

Getting that much repaired in 12 days could be problematic. Fix the leaking water heater and see what it looks like after it dries hard. Use a portable ceramic heater to dry it out. DO NOT use direct heat. You don't want to set it on fire.

Yes, you most likely will need to pressurize the system (but you don't need to turn on the heat).

The advantage I have here though is that I'm a teacher and don't have to go to work for the next three months, so that's helpful.

maybe the WH or lines near it, weren't properly winterized and a leak developed.

i agree that it looks more like a WH leak, than a front bunk leak.

That should work too. Not sure which would be faster though.

My water heater had a slow drip out of the PEX fitting only when the water heater was warm. Put a new crimp clamp on and has been better. For some reason it only dripped when water heater held warm water.

A small table fan or even a box fan on low speed aimed directly at the wet
area will greatly speed drying.

Edit-- there are several water trails down front wall so this might not be
a plumbing leak! Try hosing down the outside and look for leaks.
You'll need to investigate further. Could be both places leaking.

Good Luck!

Our home oil furnace only leaked when it was cold. The metal of the boiler would shrink and it would leak at a rubber gasket.

Hot, the parts would expand and stop your leaker.

I'd bet that is all from the bunk leak with the rain we've had in PA lately. It has been heavy and often. Today would be a good time to take a look since more is coming. A pressure test of the WH is a good idea now it is easy to get to, but my bet is weather along with the linoleum helping to wick the moisture every where else. Trailer tilt may have helped.

A dehumidifier will dry it out in time for your trip but there is a bit of work ahead getting that rot replaced.

I have been running the AC the past 2 days, and the floor is mostly dried up. Tomorrow, I am replacing the wood flooring from the wardrobe cabinet on up. Going to get some Dicor Lap Sealant and reseal all of my joints, doors, windows, etc. Once I get the new wood down, it shouldn't be too difficult from there. There is one section of the original woodwork (right where the bunk door attaches that was swollen up, and I'm going to replace that with some real wood, not compressed particle board that's there. Once I get the new wood on the floor down, I should be good to go from there...Hopefully!

Pulled up and replaced two sheets of plywood, pulled the water heater and both sided storage hatches to reseal. Just glued in new linoleum before retiring for the night. Going to take tomorrow off, let the glue cure, and get the interior put back in this weekend, and we will be good to go for next weekend!

Please post pictures of the outcome. Were you ever able to determine the exact cause of the damage? Waterheater, front bunk, both?

Hey guys, new to the site, but I have been reading for a while. I bought a 233 last year knowing it had a soft spot to contend with. It is between the dinette and the sofa. After I got it home and filled the water heater up, I noticed it dripping a little. I checked all lines and no leaks from them. So then I pulled the water heater out and found a very, very small hole where the weld had stopped on the tank. It had threw a piece of slag and that is where the hole was. We brazed it up and it has leaked no more. Hopefully this winter I can tear into the floor and replace what needs it. Bunks ends are a different story.
