Home made pugs coming apart

When we bought our Roo back in 2011 we bought some new survival blankets (the ones that are silver on one side & orange on the other) and made our own PUGS. They have worked very well for us. Last Summer I noticed that the silver side was starting to crack & come off. Went out last week and spent a day with rain. Could really see where the silver was coming off. When I went to remove them found streams of the silver down the side of the bunks, on the side of my trailer & even had blown onto the side of my truck. Anyone else ever had this happen?

That is probably why they are cheaper than the real PUGs. I have had ours for at least 8 or maybe even more years now and they are in good shape yet(the real ones though)

yea, I first had the generic 5x7 blankets and then a fellow member here gave me his PUGs.
I can tell you that the PUGs are made from better and stronger material than the generic blankets.

PUG stands for Pop UP Gizmos, which are covers that go over the bunk ends of a pop up or hybrid trailer. See popupgizmos.com

Custom sized solar blankets for those that own popup and hybrids trailers.

Not a stupid question. Unfortunately these forums rely on acronyms for everything, DH, DW, PUGS.

I'd say the biggest reason they are falling apart is the UV. As blankets, they aren't really made to be out in the sun. Therefore, they will begin to break down fairly quickly.

I had PUGs, when I had a popup (PuP). They really are worth buying. We had ours for a couple of years and sold them with the PuP. That was four years ago and the person, who bought it from me said they still work fantastic. They work very well fo summer and winter camping...they keep you cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.

PUG's

I made a set for my Roo out of insulated tarps. Only two seasons on them so I can't say how they will hold up but I decided to go the original clamp on design one better. I put awning channel over the foldouts and attached awning bead to the edge of the tarps. Put cleats on the underside of the foldouts and use bungy cord to hold them down. Takes about 3 minutes to put both on.

If you have a picture of the modified tarp and mounting that would be of interest to myself and others. Thanks

We are supposed to have nice weather this weekend so if I get time I need to open the rig anyway I'll try to post some pictures of the PUGS I made.

When I bought my blankets, I found them on- line extra cheap. I t wouldn't cost very much to recreate them once in a while.

There's a Glossary of Forum Terms sticky, in the Forum Administration section.

DocRob, I would be interested in your awning channel as well. Where do you get it?
